LARRY BOWNE
Associate professor of architecture

 

Larry BowneProfessional and academic work by Larry Bowne has appeared on national television and in noted architecture publications.

Bowne, a K-State faculty member since 2003, has been the principal architect of Larry Bowne Architects in New York City and in Manhattan. While in New York, he ran a partnership that prepared designs for projects in the U.S. and abroad, including in Buenos Aires, Zurich and Kosovo. His professional work has included residential apartments as well as retail, commercial and public spaces.

Bowne and his work have been featured on two episodes of HGTV's "Small Spaces, Big Styles" and in articles for the publications Interiors, Dwell and Village Voice. He also has had exhibitions at multiple venues, including the Marianne Boesky Gallery in New York City, the University of Kansas and at K-State. In addition, he has collaborated with artists for exhibitions at the Museum of Modern Art and Art Basel.

At K-State, Bowne and his students have been involved with various design/build projects, including small-scale public pavilions in Greensburg, the Kansas community nearly wiped out by a tornado in 2007; the House of Dance and Feathers in New Orleans; and a chicken coop in Rose Hill as part of an episode of ABC's "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition." The projects have earned national and international recognition, including articles in Architectural Record and The New York Times; exhibitions at the 10th Venice Biennale and the Cooper-Hewitt Smithsonian National Design Museum; and coverage on The Weather Channel and National Public Radio.

Bowne earned a bachelor's degree with honors from the University of California at Los Angeles and a master of architecture from Harvard University. He also served architectural internships in Boston and New York City.
