Nearly 1,400 K-State students are candidates for degrees at the university’s fall commencement ceremonies Friday, Dec. 7, and Saturday, Dec. 8, in Salina and Manhattan.
K-State will award more than 1,220 bachelor’s degrees, nearly 190 master’s degrees, about 60 doctoral degrees and about 20 associate’s degrees. Nearly 50 students will receive multiple degrees. More than 110 students earned their degrees through K-State distance education programs.
Ceremonies include:
* K-State Graduate School, 1 p.m. Dec. 7, Bramlage Coliseum.
* K-State at Salina, 7 p.m. Dec. 7, Kansas Highway Patrol Headquarters, Troop J, 2025 E. Iron Ave., Salina.
* College of Arts and Sciences, 9 a.m. Dec. 8, Bramlage Coliseum.
* College of Human Ecology, 9 a.m. Dec. 8, McCain Auditorium.
* College of Education, 10:30 a.m. Dec. 8, Bramlage Coliseum.
* College of Business Administration, noon Dec. 8, Bramlage Coliseum.
* College of Agriculture, 1:30 p.m. Dec. 8, Bramlage Coliseum.
* College of Engineering, 3 p.m. Dec. 8, Bramlage Coliseum.

Speakers for the Dec. 7 ceremonies include Karen Holbrook, director of the Washington Advisory Group, for the Graduate School.
Speakers for ceremonies Dec. 8 include Kathleen Leos, former U.S. assistant deputy secretary of education, for the College of Education. Also speaking will be Gary Pierzynski, head of agronomy, for the College of Agriculture; Larry Williams, associate professor of biology, for the College of Arts and Sciences; Paul Stephenson, co-owner of Executive Airshares, for the College of Business Administration; John English, dean, for the College of Engineering; and Virginia Moxley, dean, for the College of Human Ecology.
Several K-State faculty members will be recognized at the Graduate School ceremony for their achievements. The honorees include three professors who were awarded K-State’s highest rank of university distinguished professor earlier this year: Dale Herspring, professor of political science; Duy Hua, professor of chemistry; and Subbaratnam Muthukrishnan, professor of biochemistry. The ceremony also will include the presentation of the Commerce Bank Distinguished Graduate Faculty Award to Dolores Takemoto, professor of biochemistry, and James Edgar, professor of chemical engineering. K-State alumnus Lee Borck will receive the Medal of Excellence.
