A large portion of my job is distributing the news releases the office's writers generate. I am able to do this through our Web site and by e-mailing the releases to individual writers, editors, bloggers and broadcasters at target media outlets. I use contact information gathered into databases of local, statewide and national media outlets, including newspapers, radio and TV stations, magazines, business papers and trade press.

Six times a year we send out large lists to students' hometown papers -- scholarship, graduation and honors, and those are carefully organized so editors can readily find students from their towns.

Also, I update and maintain the department's Web page. This includes posting the daily and emergency news releases, creating new sections as they become necessary and keeping existing information up to date. Using RSS technology, I use information from our page to update the "K-State News" portion of the K-State homepage. Anyone may subscribe to our RSS feed, allowing anyone to receive K-State news as it becomes available. In addition to our Web site, I also make changes to Photo Services' Web page as needed.

I also supervise the administrative specialist and four student clerical assistants. I serve as K-Statement coordinator, compiling the weekly online faculty-staff newsletter's Noteworthy section, assisting the editor wherever needed and posting each edition on the Web.

I am the computer support person for the department, troubleshooting and arranging maintenance.
