From its first incarnation in 1877 at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow to the many productions around the globe today, this timeless story of a young man's love and betrayal of a swan queen, set to one of Tchaikovsky's most enduring scores, continues to engage audiences and inspire new generations of dancers.
Under the artistic direction of Elena Radchenko, the Russian National Ballet Theatre was founded in Moscow during Perestroika in the late 1980s, when many of the great dancers and choreographers of the Soviet Union's ballet institutions exercised their newfound creative freedom by starting new, vibrant companies dedicated to the timeless tradition of classical Russian Ballet.
