Advancement Council
The School of Leadership Studies Advancement Council is a group of alumni, business, civic and student leaders who are committed to the vitality of the School of Leadership Studies at Kansas State University. Members of the Council actively support and promote the mission of the School of Leadership Studies, “developing knowledgeable, ethical, caring, inclusive leaders for a diverse and changing world.”
The purpose of the School of Leadership Studies Advancement Council is to help strengthen its learning, research and outreach programs, improve its facilities, expand its base of support, and serve its alumni. Council members actively participate in the continual assessment of the program’s progress and the development of partnerships. Specifically, Advancement Council members are asked to:
- Provide advice from the perspective of alumni, business, civic and student leaders regarding the relevance and importance of our leadership curriculum and programs.
- Provide a connection between our faculty and students on campus and the various businesses and organizations represented by Council members.
- Provide leadership to secure the resources necessary for future growth of the School of Leadership Studies.
- Provide advice on strategies to increase recognition of the School of Leadership Studies and to continue expanding the program's base of support.
Advancement Council Chair
Casey Carlson
After taking a one-year sabbatical to race hot wheels, put together puzzles and sing and dance with her three and a half year old twins, Casey Carlson recently returned to Deloitte. Casey has worked for over a decade in Deloitte’s Talent organization. She has served in a number of HR leadership roles working with each of the business lines within Deloitte’s organization. She is now part of Deloitte’s Global Mobility & Immigration (GM&I) team in a leadership development role. This is a rotational role that is designed to give professionals the opportunity to learn all aspects of GM&I. For her first rotation, Casey will lead the Projects, India to U.S., & Global Visa Desk Team. Prior to this role, Casey was a Senior Manager in Deloitte’s Inclusion team. In this role she managed strategic initiatives to build capabilities across Diversity, Inclusion and the Women’s Initiative to enhance eminence in both the internal talent and external client market.
Casey has spent the bulk of her career at Deloitte focused on Talent Acquisition and building the future talent pipeline. As the Chief of Staff for Next Generation Initiatives, she researched demographic and workforce attitudes with the intention of creating and implementing innovative initiatives that foster an environment which ensures the best talent is attracted, retained and receives enhanced career growth. Casey played a key role in building the firm’s PreCollege Outreach program. The initiative included Life, Inc., Virtual Team Challenge for High Schools, and Business Smarts. As the National Leader of Campus Recruiting for Deloitte Tax, Casey led the business’ early sourcing, campus outreach and hiring strategies. She was instrumental in developing Deloitte’s campus interview and assessment material, as well as in creating strategies for faculty outreach, and internship programs. Casey received the 2009 Alliance for Work Life Progress Rising Star award for her work on Generational Differences.
Casey is a native of Solomon, Kansas graduating from high school with a class of 17. She graduated from Kansas State University where she received her Bachelors degree in Accounting and Finance and Masters of Accountancy. While at K-State, she helped establish an interdisciplinary minor in leadership studies, the fastest growing and widest reaching academic program at the university. Casey now serves as the Chair of the School of Leadership Studies Advancement Council. She is passionate about the future of education and plays an advisory role with several organizations focused on secondary education reform. Casey lives with her husband, three year olds and cat in Concord, MA. She and her family enjoy taking advantage of the many beaches, hiking trails, museums and parks in the surrounding Boston area.
