Community Service Programs
Alternative Breaks
Alternative Breaks is an opportunity for students to participate
in an intense service experience during their spring break. Participants
travel to communities where they work with local residents to address
a pressing social issue. Recent trips have included AIDS Services of Dallas,
Stand up for Kids in Denver, CO, and Katrina Relief efforts in New Orleans,
LA.
International Teams
International Teams provide eight to ten weeks of service to developing
communities around the world during the summer break. Interdisciplinary
student teams work with the community to plan and implement service projects
during their stay. Over the past 17 years, international teams have served
communities worldwide by creating community-specific plans and projects
focused on health, education, environmental concerns and other development
issues. Students selected to participate on a team complete a three-credit
course during spring semester in preparation of their summer service.
