Summer 2007 Host Site Descriptions
Botswana, Africa
Students contacted various social service agencies in the city and surrounding area to identify projects of special interest. Two team members worked at the Mokolodi Game Reserve, mostly within the cheetah enclosure. Others assisted with the Tlamelo Feeding Project and the township elementary school at Old Naledi. Housing was provided by the University of Botswana at the graduate flats.
Brazil
Students worked with project P.R.A.Y. in a small community in the Amazon. The team performed various tasks at the orphanage including childcare, facility maintenance. Some of the students helped in a medical clinic assisting with minor needs.
Puebla, Mexico
Students worked with the University of Puebla to identify projects of interest. Their dominant project throughout the summer was working in the Barrio de Santiago Community Center teaching English to children in the care facility. Additionally, the students took on projects unique to their own interests including work in a medical study and writing with the community newspaper.
Zoquitlan, Mexico
Students worked in the mountain village of Zoquitlan teaching English and involving themselves in the local community centre. Each student lived with a different host family in various areas of the community, arranged by the University of Puebla.
