Summer 1994 Host Site Descriptions
El Calabozo and Patzcuaro, Michoacan, Mexico
Near Patzcuaro, Bridges and Toepfer produced a market analysis for the same microenterprises served in 1993. (In Doctor Miguel Silva, the worked withwomen who owned a fruit tree nursery and tortilla shop, and in Santa Clara de Cobre with copper artists and peasant farmers.) They also helped the community improve marketing of their products. Hathaway and Rittmaster taught the 1993 pre-school in El Calabozo and continued to address health issues in the rural village.
Piribebuy, Paraguay
Team members worked individually with Paraguayan students of development on community based projects. This served as the culmination of the Paraguayan forty-year development program. Collectively the team did a marketing survey and promotion campaign for a “community produce fair”, in effort establish a central market for area farmers. The fair took place on July 23 and was considered a success.
Izamal, Yucatan Mexico
Students worked with community children at an educational summer camp put on by the Cultural Foundation of Yucatan. Students taught lessons on art, English, international culture, and ecology in three two-week sessions. The children participated in multiple activities, including day trips to the museum and to Merida to meet the governor.

Serving as the Administrative Officer at the School of Leadership Studies, Sue keeps the wheels turning of the dynamic and energetic group of staff and students around SLS. Sue recognizes the benefit of the School of Leadership Studies in K-State student’s lives. She believes that the knowledge gained through both activities academics at Leadership Studies is as valuable as what is learned in a traditional classroom setting. Also a K-State grad and currently in a Master’s program at Emporia State University, Pray came to SLS with 25 years of managerial experience both in retail and in the Reserve Collection for Hale Library.
