Summer 1992 Host Site Descriptions
Costa Rica
The team performed various functions at the site. They taught English classes, worked in the CEFEMINA battered women’s clinic, and addressed health issues in the mother’s and children’s clinic. They also translated letters to sponsored children and lead field trips for them. Small baseline surveys were conducted for microenterprise.
Dominican Republic
The Lorena Stove project continued building and training. A microenterprise project promoting a milk candy business was successful. A donation of equipment and seeds was sent, and a couple of gardens were started. Children participated in a week-long day camp where they were taught English, planted trees, and were encouraged to clean a sports field. Students also evaluated last year’s project efforts.
Santiago, Dominican Republic
The team worked with SSM Bridges, el Centro Internacional del Envejecimiento, to plan an intergenerational preschool.daycare for children of Free Zone workers. They also worked with a Dominican, who wrote the curriculum. Office help and general translations were also performed.
