The Ebola virus outbreak of 2014 in West Africa currently includes the countries of Sierra Leone, Guinea, Liberia, and Nigeria. It is spread by direct contact with the body fluids of a person ill with Ebola or direct contact with an object such as a needle that is contaminated with body fluids from an infected person. It is possible to become exposed as well from handling a sick or dead animal who is infected with Ebola or eating raw meat from such an animal.
Any student or faculty/staff member who has traveled to/from these areas within the past 4 weeks and has been in direct contact with an ill person suspected of having Ebola in that location should call Lafene Health Center @ 785 532-6544 and ask to speak with a nurse or call the Riley County Health Department @ 785 776-4779 to speak with the communicable disease nurse.
