Asthma Clinic

If you have been diagnosed with asthma, the Asthma Clinic is available for you. Our goal is to help you gain control of your asthma symptoms. Maintenance therapy can prevent many asthma exacerbations.

Take the Asthma Control Test and see how well your symptoms are currently controlled.

Many people with asthma find that infections often trigger their asthma symptoms. Lafene's policy is to give students with chronic diseases the first opportunity to get the flu vaccine. An asthma diagnosis places you in such a category to be one of the first to receive the flu vaccine. Receive timely tips and health information from getair-L@listserv.k-state.edu (a listserv for patients with asthma). To subscribe, email healthy@k-state.edu.

What to expect at your asthma clinic visit?

Plan on about a 30 minute visit to review:

  • patient history
  • peak flow
  • spirometry
  • exacerbating factors/diseases
  • triggers
  • asthma action plan
  • medication therapy

An annual assessment is recommended in order to review/revise the current treatment plan, any physical symptoms you may be experiencing, and any environmental factors that may be impacting your symptom control.

What should you bring to your first asthma clinic appointment?

  • all medicines (pills, inhalers, nebulizer meds)
  • spacers or peak flow meters
  • your asthma action plan
  • medical records, if available
