Rabies
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has posted updated information regarding rabies vaccine supply on its website (www.cdc.gov/rabies). Due to limitations in the production of rabies vaccine, its distribution is available only with approval from state and federal public health authorities. The following are recommendations made regarding rabies vaccination:
- Persons at increased risk for rabies exposure should take appropriate precautions to avoid rabies exposure.
- Vaccine is available for post exposure treatment in limited circumstances following consultation with state public health authorities.
- General rabies awareness and prevention messages should be emphasized to avoid exposure (e.g., avoid wildlife contact, vaccinate pets/livestock, capture/observe/test exposing animals, etc.)
