New Student Orientation
Welcome to the K-State Great Plains IDEA community, we are glad you're here!
My name is Amanda Gnadt and I am your K-State Great Plains IDEA Campus Coordinator.
As a new student there are five important steps for you to complete.
This orientation is designed to take you through those steps, and to familiarize you with K-State's student systems.
Please take a few minutes to review the general
Great Plains IDEA Orientation BEFORE
proceeding.

Step 1
Complete the Great Plains IDEA Student Acknowledgment
All students in Great Plains IDEA programs need to have a Student Acknowledgement form on file prior to enrolling in courses their first semester.
Great Plains IDEA degree programs are taught through an alliance of universities.
The form acknowledges the need to share student information between the home institution and the teaching institutions.
All information is encrypted and shared through a Virtual Private Network.
It is only accessible to the coordinators in the program as they exchange roster and grade information between home and teaching institutions.
Please download the Student Acknowledgment Form (right), and return it to your Campus Coordinator in one of three ways:
- Print, sign, scan and email to gpideacc@ksu.edu
- Print, sign and fax to 785-532-5504, Attn: Amanda Gnadt
-
Print, sign and mail to:

Step 2
Compelte the Military Affiliation Survey
Great Plains IDEA is committed to providing educational programs that advance the health, well-being, and quality of life for military service members, families, and their
communities. In order to evaluate our efforts we need some information about our students affiliated with the military, either directly or inderectly.
Your response is voluntary and confidential. If you have any questions, please contact Rick Scheidt, Chair of the Committee on Research Involving Human Subjects. Thank you
for helping us serve you!

Step 3
Create your K-State eID
As a new member of the K-State community you must select and register an eID, your K-State electronic identification.
The eID becomes your K-State email address and key to resources on K-State's central computer systems.
Your password must be changed at the beginning of each spring and fall semester.
In order to
create your eID you will need your Wildcat ID Number (WID), which can be found on
your official acceptance lettter.
Check your K-State Webmail
Your K-State eID becomes your K-State email address.
All communication from the university will be sent to your K-State email address.
If you do not plan to use this account for email, you will need to
forward this
account to the email address you check most often.
It is recommended that you use your K-State email account as your link between K-State, your instructors and yourself.
Login to your
K-State Webmail
Please submit your eID to the campus coordinator.
Step 4
K-State Online, the K-State Course Access System
K-State Online Overview
When taking courses from K-State, you will use KSOL to access those courses.
At the beginning of the semester, the course(s) you are enrolled in will appear in your course organizer.
Students can login to
K-State Online anytime, but classes are in your course organizer only during the semester for which you are enrolled.
If you are taking courses taught through a participating university, you will access those courses through their course access system (not KSOL).
Step 5
iSIS, the K-State Student Information System
iSIS Overview
You will use the Student Information Center primarily for enrollment, to check your grades, and pay your tuition.
Login to
iSIS and become familiar with your new Student Center.
You can also visit the
iSIS Student Support page for general FAQs.
Enrollment
Because you have been admitted to K-State as your "home" university, you will enroll in all of your courses through K-State, using iSIS. This ensures that your transcript is
accurate. A course may be taught by a different university ("teaching" university) and in those cases you will still enroll through iSIS at K-State, but when the course
begins you will ACCESS the class through the teaching university course management website (similar to K-State Online). Prior to the first day of class the Campus
Coordinator at the teaching university will contact you with instructions about how to access the course.
