Although
students take courses through all participating universities in their
alliance program, grades are recorded directly on your K-State transcript.
There is no indication on the transcript that the courses were taken
elsewhere, or that they were taken at a distance for that matter.
Honor
System
All students at Kansas State University, including graduate students,
are responsible for following the KSU honor pledge described in the
Honor System. For your responsibilities
as a student, please read the information on the honor system website
linked above.
The Great
Plains IDEA also has an Academic Integrity
Statement for distance education programs.
Accessing
Grades
Semester grades are reported in the K-State Access Technology System,
or KATS. This area is accessed by using your eID to log in. The URL
for KATS is http://kats.ksu.edu/.
This site can be used to check your semester schedule, financial aid,
and your student account, in addition to checking your grades. K-State
no longer mails grades out to students. Students will need to check
here to obtain grades from all courses at the end of each semester.
Your
campus coordinator can send out a letter verifying your enrollment and
grade for reimbursement purposes if you need something on official letterhead.
Graded
Work
Graduate work is graded A, B, C, D, F, incomplete, or withdrawn. For graduate credit, the grade in a course
must be C or higher. To remain in good standing, a student must maintain
a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
To be
awarded a graduate degree, the student (a) must not be on probation,
(b) must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher on graduate coursework
and on coursework on the program of study, (c) must meet all the requirements
of the Graduate School, the student's academic program area, and the
student's supervisory committee, and (d) must be enrolled during the
semester in which the degree requirements are completed.
Incomplete
Policy
The grade of Incomplete (I) is given in regular courses (except for
theses and directed research courses) upon request of the student for
personal emergencies that are verifiable. The faculty member has the
responsibility to provide written notification to the student of the
work required to remove the incomplete. The student has the responsibility
to take the initiative in completing the work and is expected to make
up the I during the next semester (Fall or Spring) after receiving the
grade (except for theses and directed research courses). If the student
does not make up the I during the next semester after receiving it,
a grade may be given by the faculty member without further consultation
with the student.
If after
the end of the next semester the I remains on the record, it will be
designated as F (previously IX) for record keeping and will be computed
in the student's GPA, weighted at 0 points per credit. A grade of NR
will be treated in a like manner.
For information
on inactive status, probation, dismissal and reinstatement please follow
the link to the Graduate Student Handbook at the left.
Grade Translation
Some universities participating in the Great Plains IDEA consortium
give plusses and minuses (A-, B+, B-, etc.). These grades will be translated
as a straight letter grade when posted on your K-State transcript (i.e.,
an A- becomes an A, a B+ becomes a B, etc.). For a grade translation
chart, please see http://www.gpidea.org/prospective/ProgramGeneral.html#FAQ.
Grade Appeal Process
Students wishing to appeal a grade must follow the procedures at the
teaching institution for resolution. Please contact the Campus Coordinator
at the teaching institution in question for procedures on their campus.
Transcript Request
Please allow four to six weeks after the completion of the semester
before requesting a copy of your transcript. Requests should be sent
to the University Registrar's Office, 118 Anderson Hall, Kansas State
University, Manhattan, KS 66506-0014 or http://www.ksu.edu/registrar/t_v/.
Effective July 1, 2006 there will be no charge for currently enrolled
students. For requests prior to this date, please contact the Registrar's
office at 785-532-6254 for charges.
