Online |
As a new
member of the K-State community, you must select and register an eID,
your K-State electronic identification. Your eID is part of your K-State
e-mail address and your key to the resources on K-State's central computer
systems. You will use your eID to access K-State Online, which we use
as our course management system here at K-State. You will also use this
ID to access grades and it can be used as an e-mail address/account,
using Web Mail. Your password must be changed at the beginning of each
spring and fall semester, and this ID will be available to you for your
lifetime if you want to keep using it.
1. Go to http://eid.ksu.edu and create
an eID by clicking on the
'Register' button on the left.
2. When you reach step 4 - 'Verify your K-State affiliation', if you
have not received your official acceptance letter from K-State Graduate
School, choose 'Neither'. After you have received this letter, go
back to the above website, log-in using your eID and go to the K-State
Affiliation (verify) area to verify you are a K-State Student. Until
the Graduate School has processed your admission and created a file
for you on the Student Information System (SIS) the system will not
be able to verify your affiliation, but you can still create your
account and begin using the K-State Online system. If you have received
your letter, select Student for the verification.
3. Finally, go to http://online.ksu.edu
and log into K-State Online with your new eID, then email kcurtis@humec.ksu.edu
with your new eID and she will then add you to the Great Plains IDEA
online community.
E-Mail
All email from K-State will go to your K-State email address which is
<your eID>@k-state.edu. You may forward this to your email address
within the eID Profile at the site above, or you may use Webmail if
you want to keep your school email separate. To access Webmail, go to
http://webmail.ksu.edu and log-in
using your eID and password.
It is
very important that students either forward their mail to an address
they will check frequently, or check their K-State Webmail on a regular
basis. It is your responsibility to keep this contact information up-to-date
(i.e. if you change e-mail addresses, change the forwarding address
here), change your password as needed and keep in touch with the program
here at K-State, even when the course you are taking for the semester
is taught elsewhere.
General E-mail Tips
At the
beginning of each term the Great Plains IDEA coordinators have to deal
with students who have problems receiving e-mail communications regarding
their enrollment and courses. The following are common issues and some
suggestions from your campus coordinators.
·
If you are limited on space (i.e. hotmail, yahoo, other web based
email services) make sure you clean out your messages, delete those
that are not needed, empty the trash, etc. so that messages go through!
Every semester we have emails returned to us because the mailbox is
full.
· If you change your e-mail address, make sure you update your
e- mail address with your home institution campus coordinator.
· Check your Spam and Junk Mail folder for course messages.
· Include a subject line in all email correspondence, especially
mail sent to your coordinators and instructors. We receive a high
volume of mail, and sometimes a lot of junk, so are likely to delete
message if there is no subject, especially if we do not recognize
the email address/name.
· When taking courses through this program, communication is
a shared responsibility. You should plan to check e-mail regularly
for messages from your instructor(s) and home institution. We recommend
a minimum of once per week.
· Make sure you forward MSU and KSU e-mail (and any other institution
where your account access is also an email address), or check multiple
accounts (webmail).
