Great Plains IDEA

K-State Online

Course enrollment information is posted in your Online Community under the Advising & Enrollment center module. This can be found by logging in at http://public.online.ksu.edu/ using your K-State eID. Click on GPIDEA in your Course Organizer. You will find the Modules link by hovering your mouse over the Content area on the top navigation bar. Click on Modules.

Course enrollment information is located in the Advising and Enrollment Center folder. This information is updated as it is received from other institutions.

Enrollment deadlines
Enrollment deadlines are set earlier for Great Plains IDEA courses due to the need to exchange this information with the teaching institution, allowing time to set up student accounts at the teaching institution for students not enrolled there. Specific dates for each semester are posted in the Advising & Enrollment center, but generally follow the guidelines below.

Fall semester - end of July
Spring semester - end of November
Summer semester - varies with the start of class, mid-April (courses beginning in May) to end of April (courses beginning in June)

Course Dates
Course dates generally follow the teaching institution's semester, with the exception of the Youth Development program. This means you may have courses starting and stopping at different times during the semester. It is the student's responsibility to note these dates and access the course at the appropriate time. If you have not received access instructions prior to the start of class, contact your Campus Coordinator, or the teaching institution's Campus Coordinator. Youth Development faculty have set common start and end dates for Fall and Spring semester courses.

How to Register for Courses
Course information sheets for each course are linked to the course name. These are listed by semester, and by program in the Advising & Enrollment Center. The course information sheets contain textbook information (if it is missing check back later), course start and end dates, instructors name and contact information, and the class number you will need to enroll. You will enroll for all courses through your home institution, even when courses are taught through one of our partner institutions. Some courses have a size limit, so it is to your advantage to register early, especially if you need the course to graduate in a timely manner.
Since these programs involve a number of universities, with students enrolling concurrently in courses, it is possible you will register for a course here, but are unable to actually get into the course because the enrollment capacity has been reached. The Campus Coordinator will contact you if you need to be placed on a wait list to get into a course after you register.

To register, log into iSIS using your K-State eID. Enter the class number for the Great Plains IDEA course in which you wish to enroll.

iSIS Support: http://www.k-state.edu/isishelp/student/

Students can check their semester schedule through iSIS to make sure the registration was received, obtain their invoice, drop courses and check grades.

After the Great Plains IDEA enrollment deadline, these courses are opened up to non-GPIDEA students on a space available basis. If your courses are not showing up in iSIS, you are not in the Student Information System and we have no way of knowing you have enrolled in the course. A space cannot be guaranteed in the class after this deadline.

How to drop/add a course
To drop a course, log into iSIS and follow the Drop a Class link. Please contact your campus coordinator, in addition to dropping the course, with the change in your enrollment status, so that she can make changes in the alliance database.

Purchasing Textbooks
Textbook information is updated on the course information sheets in GPIDEA as it is received from the teaching institution. If you do not find text information listed when you enroll, please keep checking back. Sometimes this information includes specific instructions for ordering the texts (i.e. from the teaching institution's campus bookstore, or through the publisher). Many of the books used for these courses are readily available through online bookstores. Some URLs to check include amazon.com, bn.com, half.com, varsitybooks.com, and campusbooks.com. A Google search for 'online college textbooks' will give you many additional sources for textbooks. Varney's, our local bookstore, will not have books in stock for courses taught at other institutions.

One important caution: Be sure that you are ordering the correct book and edition, and be sure to order from a source that will get the book to you before the start of class. We suggest you order books at least one month prior to the start of class if the text information is available. In most cases the information is posted early enough to be able to do this.

Course Access Information/Instructions
We have created a form for students to keep track of course login and password information for each institution in the program. This form is found in the folder for your master's degree program, in the GPIDEA modules area, and it is also linked below by program.

You will either create or be assigned an ID and password at each teaching institution in your program. Next time you take a course from that institution you will use the same login to access the course, so you will need to remember this information. You can either print it out and keep a hard copy, or just fill in the table in Word and keep it on your computer. (I would suggest printing a copy as a backup if you keep it on the computer.) This ID usually acts as your email address on that campus, also, so if you change Internet Service Providers during your degree program, be sure to update this for each of these accounts, as well as your K-State eID.

You should receive instructions for accessing your course a few days to two weeks prior to the start of class. If you have not received this information before class begins, please contact your campus coordinator.

Tuition
The Great Plains IDEA charges a common tuition for all courses in your program. There is no need to worry about in-state or out-of-state tuition, depending on where you live, or where the course is taught. Tuition for the 2008-2009 academic year (Fall 2008 to Summer 2009) is $415 per credit hour. Students enroll through their home institution (K-State) for courses and will pay the full tuition to K-State. The home institution then cuts one check for all of their students enrolled in the teaching institution's courses.
If you receive an invoice from another university, please contact your campus coordinator who will follow-up to correct the error.

Tuition Payment Information
The K-State Cashier’s Office will provide an electronic bill (eBill) after the 15th of each month. You will have access to your monthly statement online through an e-mail notification to your K-State e-mail address indicating your tuition statement, invoice, for the full amount of your tuition and fees is ready to be viewed on your KATS account. This can be viewed any time in the KATS system (http://kats.ksu.edu/ ) under the “Student Account” link. You will be able to make payments online. eBilling begins for each semester as follows: Fall - July 15th, Spring - December 15th, Summer - May 15th. A 1.5% default charge will be assessed each month until the balance is paid in full. Please do not send payment or tuition assistance forms to the Cashier’s Office until you receive your first statement.

Please use one of the following methods to pay your tuition and fees. You can also access your account information online at http://www.kats.ksu.edu.

Financial Aid

Sponsored Students

(military TA or company paying all or part of your invoice)
Students with a third party paying all or part of tuition and fees need to provide tuition assistance form, purchase order or other authorization of payment to: Jenny Imhoff, KSU Cashier’s Office, 212 Anderson Hall, Manhattan KS 66506, (785) 532-6244 or jennyli@ksu.edu. Please note company reimbursement policies are between you and your employer.

Keep in mind that payment of tuition and fees are the responsibility of the student. In the event the sponsor does not make full payment, all charges and late fees will be returned to and be the responsibility of the student.

Refund policy
Students may receive a 100% refund of tuition if it is requested in writing prior to the completion of 20% of the course (see non refundable Exceptions below), or if the course is canceled. A $75 processing fee will be retained for courses dropped after the start date.

Students may receive a 50% refund of tuition if it is requested in writing on or before the completion of 25% of the course (see non refundable Exceptions below). A $75 processing fee will be retained for courses dropped after the start date.

No refund is available after 25% of the course is completed.

Some professional programs and short courses have unique refund policies that will be published in the program announcement.

Exceptions
The following tuition components are non-refundable: licensing fees, program deposits, shipping costs, late fees, returned check charges, and some college/departmental support fees.

*All shippable course materials must be returned to the DCE Facilitation Center. The University will withhold students' records and deny future enrollment for non-return of University property or non-payment of fees. Shippable course materials are defined as videotapes, audiotapes, CD-ROMs, diskettes, lab kits, or any educational materials specifically related to that course. The DCE Course Information Packet, welcome letter, or any materials sent to students electronically or posted on the Web are not considered shippable course materials.

Incomplete Policy
The grade of incomplete is given upon request of the student for personal emergencies, which are verifiable. The K-State policy on Incomplete grades (I) states that unless the work is made up, a grade of F will replace the I at the end of the next semester in which the student is enrolled. Non-reported grades and F will count as zero grade points for GPA purposes. It is the student's responsibility to make arrangements with the instructor at the teaching institution for completion of the work, and transfer of the assigned grade back to K-State to replace the I on the transcript.
