Kansas State University Association of Residence Halls (K-State ARH) History and Other Information
Every student who lives in a residence hall or the Smurthwaite
Scholarship/Leadership House is a member of the K-Sta te Association of
Residence Halls (K-State ARH) and may attend the bi-weekly meetings of the
governing body of the organization. The executive board of the association
is made up of officers who are elected in the spring (except the National
Communications Chair who is elected in December). Each hall/house is
entitled to representation on the council based on the number of residents
(see below for a breakdown of representatives per hall). No staff member
(RAMA) may hold a position within K-State ARH.
K-State ARH is responsible for formulating policies for all halls; for
acting as the "voice of the student" in working with the administration; for
planning activities in which students from all the halls work and/or play
together; and for appointing representatives to various council and
committees on campus.
K-State ARH serves all the residents in the halls. They operate with a
budget based on part of the application fees students pay to Housing and
Dining Services and their office is located in the Derby Dining Center room
138.
Programs or activities which K-State ARH has held include the Welcome Back
Dance, Crazy Cat Kickoff (for Homecoming), Winter Ball, Blood Drives, Late
Night Finals Breakfast, Spring Fling, and bowling nights. Through K-State
ARH, students in the halls are representatives on their individual Hall
Governing Boards (HGBs), the Student Government Association (SGA),
Recreational Services Council, and many other committees.
