Minutes - March 7, 2000

The meeting was called to order in Rathbone Hall 274, at 7:10 P.M. by President John Blessing, NØYRL.

The minutes from the previous meeting were not read.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS

All-University Open House, which is on April 1, was the topic for the evening.

John Blessing will set up an APRS (Automatic Packet Reporting System) station for our display in Rathbone Hall. Actually, stations will be running in John's room and in the club station, also. Norm Dillman, NØJCC plans to provide transmission line and a power supply. One or two APRS experts from the Kansas City area may be able to attend and help with our display.

We hope to have Bill Kuhn, KO4MH do a quick check of the Icom IC-736 HF transceiver prior to Open House. There are no known problems. And the Cushcraft R-5 vertical antenna has been on top of the building since the last Open House, so one major detail is already out of the way.

The large club banner will be hung over the display by a method which will not be revealed on the Internet.

David Yoder will update and print sufficient copies of the club information/recruitment brochure.

NEW BUSINESS

There was a semi-formal presentation of a certificate from the American Radio Relay League to commemorate our club's fifty years of affiliation with the League, as of November, 1999. President John Blessing accepted for the club.

A motion was made to purchase a frame to protect the certificate. Motion passed.

Thanks to adviser Dr. Norm Dillman for donating an ARRL great circle world map for the club station. These maps are no longer available. Club members amused themselves for a few minutes looking at the surprising great circle paths (beam headings) for various countries. For example, parts of South Africa call for an almost due east heading, and parts of Australia are almost due west. Siberia is to the north.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:34 P.M.

David Yoder, KAØJPM
secretary-treasurer
