Every semester the student subunit samples the Riverpond below Tuttle Creek Reservoir targeting flathead catfish. One goal of this project is to tag flatheads to determine movement between the Riverpond and the nearby Kansas River. The other goal is to provide an opportunity to undergraduate students studying fisheries biology to gain technical experience necessary for a career in fisheries. Student get a chance to set and pull stationary trammel and hoop nets and also electrofish. After all the hard work is done, we set up camp, start a fire, cook some brats, and swap stories.
