Officers
President Joe Gerken
Joe Gerken is a PhD student in the Kansas Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Unit. He is researching many aspects of why fish are totally the awesomest animals around. His favorite fish is the Blue Sucker (closely followed by the Redfin Shiner) and he is working hard to increase the awareness of just how rad the Blue Sucker really is.
Vice President Michael Proffer
Michael Proffer is from Overland Park, Kansas. He has been involved with AFS since late 2008 and spends most of his free time looking at aquatic wee beasties as a research technician for the Kansas Cooperative Fish & Wildlife Research Unit. Michael will be graduating in May of 2010 with a Bachelor's in Biology, Secondary degree in Natural Resources and Environmental Science, and a Minor in Leadership Studies. His future career goals include traveling the world working on conservation projects, and eventually working in renewable energy.
Secretary/Treasurer Andrea Severson
Andrea Severson is pursuing a Master's in Fisheries at K-State. Andrea's initial love of fisheries work came from working side-by-side with her father at Ouray National Fish Hatchery, a propagation facility for the endangered Razorback Sucker (Xyrauchen texanus). Andrea is originally from Vernal, Utah, and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Anthropology from Utah State University in December 2007. During her time at Utah State, Andrea was active in the USU Student Subunit of the Bonneville Chapter of the American Fisheries Society. She loves working with young children, and has had the pleasure to do so as both a volunteer for the Logan City School District in Logan, Utah, and as an Interpretation and Education (I&E) Park Ranger at Dinosaur National Monument. Andrea is excited to be a part of the K-State AFS leadership again for the 2009-2010 school year!
Historian This could be you! Email Andrea if you would like to be nominated for this position. KSU AFS will vote for Historian on December 1, 2010.
