KS-AFS 2008 Meeting

Meeting Arrangements
President-elect Craig Paukert (Kansas Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Cooperative Unit, Division of Biology, KSU) served as the Break Out Sessions Committee Chair.

Awards
Past President- Mark Eberle (Fort Hays State University).

Best Professional Paper- Nate Davis (Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks)
An Assessment of Neosho Madtom Related to Gravel Harvest from the Neosho River, Kansas.

Best Student Paper- Joe Gerken (Kansas State University) Land Use Management and Habitat Conservation for the Cave-Dwelling Grotto Sculpin.

Tom Wenke Award for Best Student Poster- Travis M. Robb (Pittsburgh State University)  A Streambank Inventory of the Verdigris River.

Student Scholarships

Harold Klaassen Undergraduate Student Scholarship -

Otto Tiemeier/Frank Cross Graduate Student Scholarship - Josh Schloesser, (Kansas State University), $300 plus meeting expenses. Josh donated the meeting expense portion back to the scholarship account.

Student Subunit
The Kansas State Student Subunit brought 8 students to meeting. The subunit sold the Joe Tomelleri Topeka shiner design (new for this year) t-shirts at the meeting. They were a great success with over 50 shirts sold. There are still shirts available including a few shirts from previous meetings (flathead catfish, southern redbelly dace) at http://www.k-state.edu/ksuafs/shirts.shtml.

Jeff Eitzmann and Wes Bouska were the raffle committee for the 2008 meeting. They obtained donations from Joe Tomelleri, Miller Net, Bass Pro Shops, Cabelas, Coleman, Bushnell, Blakemore, Drop Zone, Smith Root, Wal Mart, and Pradco Fishing. In all over $500 was raised.
