2010 Student Civic Engagement YouTube Competition

Kansas Campus Compact is excited to announce the 2010 Student Civic Engagement YouTube Competition.  Students at all Kansas Campus Compact member schools are encouraged to enter.

The subject of the 2010 competition is: “How Has Service Learning Affected Your Education and Your Community?”  Entrants are encouraged to examine the curriculum, extra-curricular activities, community partners, and other instances of service learning to depict the relevance, educational impact, and effectiveness of service learning on themselves, their peers, their faculty, and the community.

The winning entry will be presented with $500 and be featured prominently in KsCC communications, including the KsCC website.  Entries are due by noon Central time, March 26, 2010 and winners will be notified and announced on April 12, 2010.

ELIGIBILITY

1. The contest is open to all degree-seeking students attending one of the following schools:

RULES

1. Subject: Each entry must address the following topic: Civic Engagement: What Impact Has Service Learning Had on Your Education, Your School, and Your Community?

2a. Joint entries:  Joint entries are prohibited.  Joint entries submitted by a group of two or more people are void.

2b. Multiple entries: Multiple entries in the competition by a single person are void.

3. Original work: Videos must be original works created for purposes of this competition.  Entrants must be the original author of everything they include in their presentation or have permission to use copyright protected material. If the presentation uses existing music, video clips, photos or the like, it is very likely that someone else owns a copyright to that material and the entrant must obtain the copyright owner's written permission before using the material.  Entries in violation will not be accepted and are void.

4. Submissions: YouTube video entries are limited to ten (10) minutes in length and must be uploaded to the YouTube contest submission site at www.youtube.com/group/kscc.  In addition to uploading the video to YouTube, the entrant must submit a completed entry form accompanied by a copy of the video, on CD or DVD and in WMV or Quicktime format, to: Kansas Campus Compact – YouTube Competition; 2323 Anderson Avenue, Suite 125; Manhattan, KS 66502.  If you have any problem with the format, contact Matthew Lindsey at matthewl@ksu.edu.  Incomplete entries are void.

5. Award criteria: Entries will be judged on their originality, creativity, and overall quality and whether they address the subject.

6. Deadline: Entries must be uploaded to www.youtube.com/group/kscc by 12:00 p.m. Central Time on March 26, 2010.  Entry forms and hard copies must be received by 5:00pm Central Time on March 31, 2010.  Entries that fail to meet either of these two deadlines will not be accepted.

7. Notification of winners: The award-winning entry will be announced on April 12, 2010.  The award-winning entry will be published on the KsCC website following the announcement.

8. Publication of entries: By submitting an entry to the contest, each entrant gives Kansas Campus Compact all rights, including copyright, to the entry and express permission to edit and publish the entry in all media without limitation and without any other notice.

9. Consent: Winning entrants must declare that they have written consent from any people appearing in their video.  Each entrant is responsible for complying with Kansas consent requirements.  A consent/release template is provide on the KsCC website at www.ksu.edu/kscc/you_tube.html.

10. Disputes: Kansas Campus Compact, as sponsor of the competition, will be the final arbiter of all questions regarding entries, judging, interpretation of the rules, and any other aspect of this contest.  In the event that there is an insufficient number of qualified entries or if the judges determine in their absolute discretion that no or too few entries meet the quality standards established to award the prizes, Kansas Campus Compact reserves the right not to award the prizes.  Kansas Campus Compact is not responsible for typographical printing or other inadvertent errors in these rules or in other materials relating to the competition.  Kansas Campus Compact is not responsible for incomplete, lost, late, misdirected, or illegible entries or for failure to receive entries due to transmission failures or technical failures of any kind.

ADDITIONAL TERMS AND CONDITIONS
1. All federal, state, local, and municipal laws and regulations apply.  Void where prohibited.

2. By entering, entrants acknowledge compliance with these rules, including all eligibility requirements.

3. Except where prohibited, participation in the competition constitutes entrant’s consent to the publication of his or her name and image in any media for any commercial or promotional purpose, without limitation or further compensation.

4. For prizewinner list (available after April 16, 2010), contact Matthew Lindsey at matthewl@ksu.edu.

5. Winners will be notified via e-mail and must respond within 7 days.  In order to receive the prize, winners must submit a completed W-9 form and any additional Kansas Campus Compact documentation that is required within 14 days of the date of notification.  Failure to return this documentation within 14 days, or to comply with any term or condition of the rules or prize notification, may, in the sole discretion of Kansas Campus Compact, result in a winner’s disqualification, the forfeiture of his or her interest in the prize, and the award of the prize to an alternate winner.

6. Winners agree that Kansas Campus Compact and its employees and agents shall not be liable for injury, loss, or damage of any kind resulting from participating in this competition or from any acceptance or use of any prize awarded.

7. The prize is non-transferable.
