Kansas Campus Compact

What is Kansas Campus Compact?

Our mission at Kansas Campus Compact is to build and strengthen the collective capacity of those who teach at, study at, work with, and lead Kansas colleges and universities to integrate a commitment to civic engagement and responsibility into the higher educational learning environment. Headquartered in Manhattan, Kansas, Kansas Campus Compact funds and facilitates service learning and civic engagement at the higher education level. Our member colleges and universities include public, private, two- and four-year institutions who are seeking to break the barrier between university and community. We have been building civic engagement into campus and academic life and pushing the boundaries of traditional education since our establishment in 2003.

Kansas Campus Compact is an affiliate of Campus Compact, a national coalition of almost 1,200 colleges and universities who are committed to fulfilling the civic purposes of higher education. As the only national higher education association dedicated solely to campus-based civic engagement, Campus Compact promotes public and community service that develops students’ citizenship skills, helps campuses forge effective community partnerships, and provides resources and training for faculty seeking to integrate civic and community-based learning into the curriculum.

"For so many young people, the college experience -- whether public or private, four-year or two-year -- provides that window of opportunity during which the habits of heart and mind are formed. Through Campus Compact university presidents commit to seize that opportunity to help produce the kind of public-spirited, civically-engaged citizens we need as we move more deeply into the 21st Century."

-Reginald Robinson, then-President and CEO of the Kansas Board of Regents (October 15, 2003)
