Kansas Campus Compact Awards

Each year, KsCC presents three awards at the Campus Compact Heartland Conference.

This award will be presented at the Awards Luncheon on the second day of the Campus Compact Heartland Conference. Nominees must be registered and in attendance at the Campus Compact Heartland Conference and Awards Luncheon to receive the award. The conference will be held in St. Louis, Missouri on October 11-12, 2012. Community Engaged Professional of the Year

The Community Engagement Professional of the Year award recognizes one professional from a member campus in Kansas who has worked toward the institutionalization of academic service-learning and/or service, created and strived toward a vision of service for his/her campus, promoted higher education as a public good, provided exceptional support to faculty and students, and has been instrumental in forming innovative campus-community partnerships.

To nominate an outstanding professional for this award, please submit a nomination packet with the following criteria addressed. The packet must also include the Nomination Cover Sheet which includes information regarding the nominee and the person making the nomination. Self-nominations are welcome. Only complete packets will be considered.

Packet Criteria:

  1. Nomination Cover Sheet (Download Here)
  2. A letter of reference from an upper level administrator (preferably supervisor of nominee) on campus detailing accomplishments in moving the campus towards the institutionalization of service/service-learning and the promotion of higher education as a public good.
  3. A letter of reference from a faculty member on campus outlining the support received from nominee.
  4. An essay from the nominee addressing his/her philosophy of service as it relates to student learning, faculty advancement and community engagement.
  5. Submission of nominee’s professional resume
  6. A summary of programs, events, strategies, etc. nominee has implemented on campus

 

Excellence in Community-Based Teaching and Scholarship Award

The Excellence in Community-Based Teaching & Scholarship award recognizes one faculty member from a member campus in Kansas who has 1) successfully incorporated service-learning into at least one course with demonstrable outcomes and 2) conducted outstanding research in the field of service-learning and engaged scholarship.

To nominate an outstanding faculty member for this award, please submit a nomination packet with the following criteria addressed. The packet must also include the Nomination Cover Sheet which includes information regarding the nominee and the person making the nomination. Self-nominations are welcome. Only complete packets will be considered.

Packet Criteria:

  1. Nomination Cover Sheet (Download Here)
  2. A letter of reference from a student whose education has been enhanced by the nominee’s engaged teaching and scholarship.
  3. A letter of reference from nominee’s department head and/or dean
  4. Submission of a service-learning syllabus from nominee’s course
  5. Submission of nominee’s curriculum vitae
  6. Summary of community-based research addressing the following:
    1. Value of the research to the broad field of service-learning and engaged scholarship
    2. Value of research or the nominee’s discipline, program, or institution
    3. The extent to which the research tied to the nominee’s area of expertise is of benefit to the external community, is visible and shared with community stakeholders, and reflects the mission of the institution

     

Outstanding Community & Campus Collaboration Award


The Outstanding Community & Campus Collaboration award recognizes a sustained campus-community partnership in the state of Kansas that demonstrates a true partnership as evidenced by 1) community agency involvement in the development of the course goals and learning outcomes; 2) measurable impact (qualitative and quantitative) on students, faculty and institution; 3) measurable impact on the lives of those served by the community agency; 4) commitment of community agency to student learning.

To nominate an outstanding community-campus collaboration for this award, please submit a nomination packet with the following criteria addressed. The packet must also include the Nomination Cover Sheet and must be submitted in tandem between the institution and the community organization. Only complete packets will be considered.

Packet Criteria:

  1. Nomination Cover Sheet (Download Here)
  2. Documentation that thoroughly demonstrates the following bullets:
    1. The partnership between the community organization and the faculty member/institution has been active for two or more academic semesters.
    2. The partnership between the community organization and the faculty member/institution was founded on a shared vision and clearly articulated goals, and the community organization was involved in the development of the course goals and learning outcomes.
    3. A measurable (quantitative and qualitative) impact on student learning occurred and community organization demonstrated a commitment to the student learning process.
    4. A measurable (quantitative and qualitative) impact on those served by the community organization occurred and faculty member/institution demonstrated a commitment to meaningful service to the community.
