Students, faculty, community members, and institutions all deserve to be recognized for their contributions to bettering their
communities. KsCC is currently developing state awards to recognize the outstanding public service achievements in Kansas. Please check back regularly for more information.
Kansas Campus Compact Awards
Kansas Campus Compact awards three annual recognitions at the Campus Compact Heartland Conference.

Community Engaged Professional of the Year
The Community Engagement Professional of the Year award recognizes one professional from a member campus in Kansas who has worked toward the institutionalization of academic service-learning and/or service, created and strived toward a vision of service for his/her campus, promoted higher education as a public good, provided exceptional support to faculty and students, and has been instrumental in forming innovative campus-community partnerships. -
Excellence in Community-Based Teaching and Scholarship Award
The Excellence in Community-Based Teaching & Scholarship award recognizes one faculty member from a member campus in Kansas who has 1) successfully incorporated service-learning into at least one course with demonstrable outcomes and 2) conducted outstanding research in the field of service-learning and engaged scholarship. -
Outstanding Community & Campus Collaboration Award
The Excellence in Community-Based Teaching & Scholarship award recognizes one faculty member from a member campus in Kansas who has 1) successfully incorporated service-learning into at least one course with demonstrable outcomes and 2) conducted outstanding research in the field of service-learning and engaged scholarship.
Carnegie Classification for Community Engagement
The Carnegie Foundation offers an elective classification to institutions that excel in the institutionalization of practices of community engagement that showed alignment among mission, culture, leadership, resources and practices. The Community Engagement Classification defines community engagement as “the collaboration between institutions of higher education and their larger communities (local, regional/state, national, global) for the mutually beneficial exchange of knowledge and resources in a context of partnership and reciprocity.”
President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll
The President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll, launched in 2006, annually recognizes institutions of higher education for their commitment to and achievement in community service. The President’s Honor Roll increases the public’s awareness of the contributions that college. Institutions may apply each year for this award.
Frank Newman Civic Fellows
In the spirit of Dr. Newman’s leadership, Campus Compact is seeking student nominations for the Newman Civic Fellows Award to recognize student leaders with both the motivation and ability to make substantial contributions toward public problem solving—those that go beyond traditional service activities in their community involvement. Each institution’s nominee will become a Newman Civic Fellow, representing your school among a national group of leaders. Students will receive an award certificate and an invitation to join the Newman Civic Fellows online network. Newman Civic Fellows will be featured on Campus Compact’s national website and in state-specific activities as appropriate.
Thomas Ehrlich Civically Engaged Faculty Award
The national Campus Compact recognizes and honors one faculty member each year for contributing to the integration
of community or public service into the curriculum and for efforts to institutionalize service-learning. The award is
named in honor of Thomas Ehrlich, past chair of the Campus Compact executive committee, President Emeritus of Indiana
University, and currently a senior scholar at the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. One award of $2,000
will be granted to a faculty member from a Campus Compact member institution.

Frank Newman Leadership Award
The Frank Newman Leadership Award provides financial support and mentorship to assist students achieve their civic and academic goals. Two $5,000 awards are available to undergraduate students at Campus Compact member colleges and universities.
In 2004, the Newman family and Frank’s many friends and admirers established The Frank Newman Leadership Fund to enable college students with demonstrated financial need and potential for leadership to receive financial assistance and mentoring, and to have a significant experience in civic leadership during their college years.
As of 2010, one student at a KsCC school has received the Frank Newman Award
