Konza Environmental Education Program Schoolyard Long-term Ecological Research Workshop Evaluation Summary 2008 |
Did you receive enough information to fully understand the projects and what your students would be involved in? What other information might you need?
· Yes, you were more than willing to answer any question.
· Absolutely.
· Yes, and having Valerie and Annie and our fellow teachers as resources helps.
· Yes, it would be really cool if you could have the worksheets (protocols and lab data sheets) already in the notebook.
· Yes.
· Yes.
Did the activities help you to understand the project and what would be asked of your students?
· Yes, actually doing these activities helps me understand expectations, anticipate questions.
· Very well thought out and put together.
· Yes.
· Yes.
· Yes, I really enjoyed doing the activities. I wish we could have done them all.
· Yes.
· Yes.
Was it important to have the researchers give informal lectures? Why or why not?
· Yes, very informative to have experts in the field. Their passion was neat to see and inspiring.
· Yes, it added variety to the workshop.
· Yes.
· Yes, I enjoyed the interesting angles.
· I learned a lot from the speakers. They were very helpful.
· Yes, but the more prepared the easier to follow.
· Yes, because we learn a lot from them and apply it to our own classroom.
Did the workshop allow adequate time to prepare you for addition of these programs into your curriculum? If not, what would be an adequate time period or better method?
· Yes, at first I stressed, but it came together. Of course, I will tweak it before use.
· Needed more time on a daily basis, possibly break the unit into different sections, pre-trip, field trip and post-trip activities, work on these sections on different days.
· Definitely, I think that there was plenty of time to work on designing.
· Could have probably shrank down the computer work time and replaced that time with more curriculum time or time for us to go out and explore on our own.
· Yes, enough time was given I would have liked the time spread out of several days instead of just one day.
· It was almost impossible to incorporate things into curriculum in short week.
· Yes.
What are some suggestions to improve the workshop or Schoolyard LTER program?
· I loved it, no suggestions. Liked 6 days instead of 10. I will recommend to other teachers.
· Time for journaling and free time. Possibly have cameras for a nature photography session. Or using photography to document the entire unit.
· I think having even more teachers come back and give accounts on what works and does not work for them would be helpful.
· Shrink the amount of time spent on technology. I think that as the years progress more teachers readily use technology in their classroom and so as a result don’t need as much instruction. A quick refresher course would be great with Darren being available for those that need more coursework.
· I liked being busy from 8:00am to 9:00pm. Just a little free time one evening would be nice.
· A little more free time for relaxation in evenings or to work on project.
How would you rate the workshop overall?
· Excellent – 6 of 7
· Good - 0
· OK - 0
· Poor - 0
· Blank - 1 of 7
