Beginner's Juggling for Kids

Are your kids looking for a fun and creative way to spend their free time? Juggling is the perfect hobby to exercise both the mind and the body while learning a thing or two about performing, concentration, and goal-setting along the way! This workshop, designed for kids ages 10 and up, will cover the basics of scarf juggling, ball juggling, balancing, and other fun circus arts. The workshop will be held in the Rec Center from 1 - 2:30 pm alongside the rest of the festival, so parents and siblings are welcome to enjoy the open juggling during the workshop. Lessons are free, and we will have starter juggling kits available at the festival for $5 a set. Taught by Bekah Smith (KSU Juggling Club), Tio Duermeier (KU Juggling Club), and Ryan Bradburn (KSU Juggling Club). To ensure a spot for your child, sign up by February 20th by contacting Bekah Smith at smith.bekah@gmail.com or 785.341.4499.

Saturday Public Show:

The show will be in the Rec Center with bleachers for the audience. The show is FREE and family friendly. The show will include performances by Warren Hammond, Brian Wendling, Tio Duermeier, Bekah Smith, Thom Wall, Galen Harp, Henry Kratchman, Jek Kelly, and others. Spots are still available for all types of juggling acts!

  • Chester E. Peters Rec Center - If you came to the festival last year, you'll remember being at the Rec Center. Instead of moving around this year, we'll have 2 basketball gyms the whole time (twice as much space as last year!). Directions: From Tuttle Creek Blvd, turn west onto Kimball Ave. Turn left (south) onto Denison Ave, and the Rec Center entrance will be the first right turn. Parking at the Rec Center is free on weekends.
  • Forum Hall - Located on the first floor of the K-State Student Union (where we juggled on Sunday at last year's festival). This is a fantastic stage for juggling with plenty of seating for everyone! Getting to the Union is rather tricky these days. A parking garage is being built on the south side of the union, so parking is no longer available there. If you stay at Holiday Inn, you can walk across the street to get to the Union. Otherwise, you'll have to park north of Rathbone Hall or west of Ahearn Fieldhouse off of Denison Avenue and walk a short distance to the Union. These parking lots are free on the weekends (except for handicapped and reserved spots, of course). Interactive online campus map
  • Places to Stay:

Limited crash space will be available with KSU Juggling Club members. If you're interested, let us know how many people are coming and when you'll be here. We've got lots of floor space, and maybe even couches and spare beds if you ask nicely. Please specificy if you're allergic to animals, or you'd like to stay with a hot single juggler, etc. Alternatively, Manhattan has plenty of hotels. Here's a few of them:
  • Super 8 Motel - 200 Tuttle Creek Blvd, (785) 537-8468
  • Fairly close to campus and the after-party location. Limited single and double rooms have been reserved for a rate of $64.99 a night. Reserved under KSU Juggling Club, give them this confirmation number to get the lower rate: P60790
  • Holiday Inn - 1641 Anderson Avenue, (800) 465-4329
  • Very close to campus, nearest hotel to the Rec Center. Also very close to Manhattan's "night life," but more expensive.
  • Econo Lodge - 1501 Tuttle Creek Blvd, (785) 539-5391
  • Also close to campus and the Rec Center. Cheapest place to stay in Manhatan, but it's a bit old and the service isn't always great.

    Other Details:

We'll have a raffle set up during the festival with spiffy juggling prizes given away after the Saturday night show. Everything about the festival is free, including the shows! We'll also have some kind of fast and free lunch for festival participants on Saturday. If you have questions, comments, or suggestions about the festival, or you'd like to run a workshop or perform in the show, shoot an email to our Event Coordinator: Bekah Smith, smith.bekah@gmail.com. Also, give her a call at any time for crash space or directions to the juggling locations, 785.341.4499.

*Non-LAJF-affiliated* juggling show featuring Team Rootberry will be performing in Salina, KS on Friday, Feb 22nd. The show starts at 7:30 pm. and costs $18. Salina is about an hour west of the juggling festival in Manhattan. More info here

Special Thanks to these folks for their contributions to our festival:
