In response to God's love, grace and truth:
The Purpose of InterVarsity Christian Fellowship/USA is
to establish and advance at colleges and universities
witnessing communities of students and faculty
who follow Jesus as Savior and Lord:
growing in love for God,
God's Word,
God's people of every ethnicity and culture
and God's purposes in the world.

About K-State InterVarsity

InterVarsity Christian Fellowship is a non-denominational campus organization whose major objectives on college campuses are:

  1. to lead others to personal faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior,
  2. to help Christians grow toward maturity as disciples of Christ, through study of the Bible, prayer, and Christian Fellowship, and
  3. to present the Call of God to world missions of the Church: helping students and faculty discover God's role for their lives.

InterVarsity is unique from some Christian organizations in that it is primarily student-led. Student leaders are able to be most in touch with the needs and perspectives of today's university students. However, staff workers assist the student leadership through training, discipleship, guidance, and friendship.

Weekly Bible studies meet on Mondays, spanning many topics and emphases. Studying God's Word in a smaller, more intimate setting allows students to interact on a deeper level and develop closer friendships. Weekly Prayer Groups are offered on Wednesdays. A prayer focus for each meeting centers on the campus and the many facets of InterVarsity.

Each semester, several exciting conferences and retreats are offered for students to attend. In addition, the Kansas State chapter of InterVarsity is involved in many other social gatherings. InterVarsity does not intend to be a substitute for church, however, and students are encouraged to be involved in local churches.

History of InterVarsity/USA

Our origins as a campus movement began in 1877 when some Christian students at the University of Cambridge, England, began to meet together to pray, study the Bible, and witness to fellow students. Encouraged by the fellowship at Cambridge, students at other English universities ("varsities") began to hold similar meetings. It is from this first alliance of different campuses that we get our name "InterVarsity." In 1928, British InterVarsity helped the formation of student groups in Canada, and in 1941, IVCF-USA was officially born. The Kansas State chapter of InterVarsity has been active since 1946. IVCF-USA is part of a multi-national organization called the International Fellowship of Evangelical Students (IFES). More than 90 national student movements are now affiliated with IFES, which provides fellowship for university students in nearly 100 countries. Today, InterVarsity is engaging the American college world with the Gospel in a number of different ways and are present on over 900 campuses across the United States. InterVarsity also has several resource ministries, including InterVarsity Press which sells over 1 million books each year. The media division, 2100 Productions, produces videos and other media tools to confront college students with the reality of Christ in their lives. The mission division provides an opportunity for hundreds of students to travel overseas each summer on short-term mission trips to various countries.
