Configuring Pegasus 4.x for Windows

Workaround for Zimbra 7

Following the Zimbra 7 release, Pegasus users will need to update the Pegasus mail settings in order use K-State Zimbra. Before users update their settings, they will need to determine whether they are using IMAP or POP by going to the Tools menu and then clicking IMAP Profiles. If there is something in that list, you are most likely using IMAP. If not, you are probably using POP. Follow the instructions in the appropriate section below.

POP Users
  1. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
  2. Click the Receiving (POP3) tab.
  3. Under Check these POP3 hosts for mail, select the host you want to edit and then click Edit.
  4. In the Server host name box, type mail.cc.ksu.edu and then click OK.

  5. Click OK again.
IMAP Users
  1. On the Tools menu, click IMAP Profiles.
  2. Under Existing IMAP Profiles, select the name of the profile you want to edit and then click Edit.
  3. In the IMAP Server address box, type mail.cc.ksu.edu and then click OK.

  4. Click Connect and then click Done.

Configuring Pegasus 4.x for Windows

This documenation is written assuming you have never setup any other e-mail client on your machine. If you have setup an e-mail account previously, the screens you see may vary slightly.

  1. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
  2. Click the Start Setup Wizard button and then click Next.
  3. In the box provided, type your K-State e-mail address and then click Next.
  4. Decide if you want to use POP or IMAP as your incoming mail server type. Follow the instructions below for the type of server you chose:
    • POP server: In The address of your POP3 Server box, type pop.k-state.edu and then click Next.
    • IMAP server: Leave the POP3 server box blank and click Skip. Go to step 7 below and continue with the remaining steps in this section.

      Note: IMAP is the recommended incoming server type. See IMAP vs. POP.

  5. In the User name box, type your eID.
  6. In the Password box, type your password and then click Next.
  7. In The address of your SMTP server box, type auth.smtp.k-state.edu and then click Next.
  8. Click Dialup or Network on the How do you connect to the Internet? page and then click Next.
  9. You will be presented with a summary of your account. Confirm everything is correct, click Finish and then click OK.
  10. Follow the instructions below to enable SSL or TLS and Authenticated SMTP.
Enabling SSL or TLS

In order to view your K-State e-mail using Pegasus, you have to enable SSL or TLS. Follow the instructions below for the type of server you chose: IMAP or POP.

IMAP Settings
  1. On the Tools menu, click IMAP profiles.
  2. Click New.
  3. In the Enter a name for this definition box, type a name for the definition.

  4. In the IMAP server address box, type imap.k-state.edu.
  5. In the Server port box, type 993 for SSL or 143 for TLS.
  6. In the Login name box, type your eID.
  7. In the Password box, type your eID password.
  8. Click the Settings tab and then click the settings and behaviours that you desire.

    Note: If you want to connect to this profile each time you start Pegasus, click the Always connect to this profile When Pegasus Mail starts up check box.

  9. Click the Security tab.
  10. Select either the Via direct SSL connect or the Via STARTTLS option, depending on which port number you entered above.

  11. Click OK.
  12. Click Connect and then click Done.
  13. Follow the instructinos below to enable Authenticated SMTP.
POP Settings
  1. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
  2. Click the Receiving (POP3) tab.
  3. Select the account you want to enable a secure connection for.
  4. Click Edit.
  5. In the Server TCP/IP port box on the General tab, type 995 for SSL or 110 for TLS.

  7. Select the Via direct SSL connect or the Via STARTTLS option, depending on which port number you entered above.

  9. Follow the instructions below to enable Authenticated SMTP.
Enabling Authenticated SMTP
  1. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
  2. Click the Sending (SMTP) tab.
  3. Select the K-State SMTP account and then click the Edit button.
  4. Under Enter a name for this definition, type auth.smtp.k-state.edu.

  5. Under General settings for sending mail via SMTP, in the Server host name box, type auth.smtp.k-state.edu.
  6. In the Server TCP/IP port box, type 465.
  7. Click the Security tab.
  8. Under Use SSL/TLS security on this connection, select the Via direct SSL connect option.

  9. Under SMTP Authentication, click Login to SMTP server using the following details.
  10. In the Username and Password boxes, type your eID and password, respectively.
  11. Click OK and then click OK.

Address Book

Importing From a Text File

Note: You need to use this option if you have exported your address book from another e-mail client. The text file can be either tagged with the field names or plain tab-delimited.

  1. Click the Address Book button Illustration of the Address Book Button .
  2. Click an existing address book or do the following to create a new address book:
    1. Click the Book button Illustration of Address Book Button and then click Create a new address book.
    2. In the Name box, type a name for your new address book.
    3. In the Filename box, type a filename for your new address book.
    4. Click Create.
  3. On the Addressbook menu, click Import tagged text file or Import tab-delimited file.

    Notes:

    • A Tagged Text File is a textual format where each line contains one field from the entry, starting with a tag, or a name that identifies the field. Usually only Pegasus Mail can import this format.
    • A Tab-delimited Text File is a textual format where each record is held in a single line in the file, and fields within the record are separated from each other using <Tab> characters. Tab-delimited format can be easily imported into most e-mail clients.
  4. Select the file to be imported.
  5. Click Open.
  6. Close the Address Book.
Exporting an Address Book
  1. Click the Address Book button.
  2. Click the Address Book you want to export.

    Note: You can also select individual addresses within an address book to export by doing one of the following:

    To select all addresses in the address book, do one of the following:

    • Hold down the CTRL key and press A.
      - OR -
    • On the Edit menu, click Select All.

    To select a group of consecutive addresses, do the following:

    1. Click the first address in the list.
    2. Press and hold down the SHIFT key and then click the last address in the list.

    To select a group of addressess anywhere within the list, do the following:

    1. Press and hold down the CTRL key.
    2. Click each address you want to select.

  3. On the Addressbook menu, click either Export to tagged text file or Export to tab-delimited file.

    Notes:

    • The Tagged text file will allow you to import this file into Pegasus only. When exporting to tagged format, each field is named, so the order of the fields is not important.
    • A Tab delimited text file is used by most mail clients. Check which file types are supported by the programs you will be importing to. In tab-delimited format, you must specify a name/alias field and an e-mail address field. All other fields are optional and can be omitted.
  4. Browse to the saving location, enter a file name in the File name box and then click Save.
  5. Close the Address Book.

Enabling Pegasus's Spam Filter

  1. On the Tools Menu, click Content control.
  2. Click Basic Spam Detection and then Click Enable.
  3. Click Edit. This dialogue box allows you to define a Blacklist file (addresses that are always unacceptable) and a Whitelist file (address that are always acceptable).
  4. Click the Exceptions tab and then click Edit for the Blacklist and Whitelist files. You can then create your lists by entering the e-mail addresses for each type of list.
  5. Click OK and then click Done.
