Description
The Kansas State University Office of Computing and Telecommunication Services is seeking applications for a Solaris System Administrator. This position will assist in all aspects of installation, configuration, and maintenance of Oracle Solaris servers and workstations including hardware, operating system, system and application software, and end-user support. This position reports to the CTS/EST Manager and works closely with other EST Unix administrators, as well as technical staff in other CTS units. The primary focus of this position is to support Solaris servers used in production enterprise-wide services. These systems are mission-critical to the operation of K-State.
Responsibilities
- Installation, maintenance, performance monitoring, tuning, configuration, and problem analysis of Solaris-based servers
- User account management (30,000+ users)
- Data backup and disaster recovery
- Remain current with various computing technologies, and expand and extend job skills
- Provide training and support to campus Unix administrators and support staff
Mandatory Qualifications
- Associate Degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience that could include technical coursework
- 2 years' Solaris 10 experience, emphasis on Solaris Containers, Live Upgrade, Fibre Channel attached storage and ZFS
- Programming experience, including Perl and Unix shell scripting
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team
- Strong troubleshooting skills
- Ability to learn and work with minimal supervision
- Ability to work a flexible schedule
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Attention to detail
- Strong customer service skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field
- Experience with Veritas Volume Manager
- Experience with Nagios and Cacti monitoring software
- Experience with customizing and maintaining Cfengine
- Experience with VMWare ESX
- Symantec NetBackup experience
- Experience with multi-user, multi-host, multi-OS server environments
- RedHat Linux experience
