Description

Kansas State University's Information Systems Office is seeking applicants for a Financial Systems Supervisor. This position is a first-line supervisor responsible for providing day-to-day technical leadership and supervision for application development staff involved in the implementation, operations, maintenance, and enhancements of K-State enterprise financial information systems and related products and services.

Responsibilities

Management
  • Manage services to primary and end users in the Division of Financial Services and the Division of Facilities for enterprise financial application systems through all stages of the systems project life cycle.
  • Confer with primary user and department personnel to determine detailed requirements and report status.
  • Assist in establishing budget and staffing levels, and make hiring recommendations.
  • Meet periodically with Information Systems Office directors and managers, customer department directors and managers, and key university administrators to report status, review priorities, assess overall performance, and discuss new or unusual developments occurring with work assignments or assigned personnel.
Supervision
  • Supervise and evaluate assigned staff in the performance of systems analysis, design and programming assignments.
  • Participate in the development of the more critical or complex modules.
  • Assist in situations where added effort is required to meet established work schedules.
  • Review all work products to assure reasonable compliance with departmental standards of documentation and quality, and established procedures.
Technical Leadership
  • Serve as the technical lead and point of contact for technical questions and issues.
  • Provide expert technical advice and consulting to users of the system, other K-State technical staff, and third party vendors.
  • Regularly facilitate and participate in project team meetings.
  • Assist in the development of project plans.
  • Communicate timely and accurate progress updates to supervisor, users, and project team members.
  • Identify and delegate appropriate tasks to lower level technical staff and monitor results.
  • Review all work products to ensure reasonable compliance with departmental standards of documentation and quality, and established procedures.
  • Aid supervisor in establishing team goals and provide feedback on individual and team performance.
  • Assist in situations where added effort is required to meet established work schedules.
  • Develop technical training materials and assist in training other technical staff on vendor applications, programming languages, developer tools, and technical environment.
Analysis and Design
  • Analyze functional requirements and present system concepts for alternative technical solutions.
  • Estimate the respective costs and benefits of each alternative.
  • Coach and review analysis work performed by assigned personnel.
  • Recommend solutions and obtain approval of appropriate user and department personnel.
Programming Operation Support
  • Develop and test existing programs, write new programs, queries, and reports.
  • Develop and test data conversion and interface programs.
  • Research and resolve application problems.
  • Communicate and coordinate with other K-State technical staff and third party vendors regarding technical issues, bug fixes, system upgrades, and enhancements.
  • Set up and automate daily operational processes.
  • Assist in developing end-user testing scenarios.
  • Adhere to application development policies and procedures.
  • Document technical solutions, program changes, operating procedures, and tech-nical reference materials.
Technical
  • Develop and maintain a high level of technical proficiency through training, publications, and conferences.
  • Provide technical direction, training, and consultation to assigned staff.
  • Advise management in the development or modification of technical or operational standards and procedures.
Mandatory Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Computer Science, Information Systems, Systems Engineering, or other appropriately related technical field.
  • Minimum seven years' experience in progressively responsible positions in a major information systems organization
  • Minimum five years' experience in designing, coding, testing, and maintaining applications in computing environments such as Sun Solaris, Intel Windows, and Linux that use a relational database management system
  • Minimum two years' experience managing and supervising technical staff, or as a technical lead responsible for delegating tasks and overseeing the work of others
  • Experience working in a group setting and interacting professionally to accomplish complex interdependent technical objectives
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision
  • Ability to motivate team members, create a positive work environment, and resolve conflicts
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Business Administration, Computer Science, Information Systems or Systems Engineering or other appropriately related technical field
  • In-depth knowledge and experience in systems analysis and computer programming for large scale business (ERP) applications
  • Two years working on financial systems in either a supervisor or staff capacity
  • Knowledge of business functions in a major research university
  • Experience implementing and managing vendor products and homegrown systems
  • Knowledge of Oracle eBusiness Suite applications, e.g., Oracle Financials
