Introduction to Interim Vice Provost Lynn Carlin

Vice Provost Lynn Carlin

Lynn Lady Carlin has served as the Interim Vice Provost for Information Technology Services since July 2007. Since joining Kansas State University in 2005, she has served as the Director of Data and Information Administration and as a special projects assistant to the Provost and Dean of Libraries.

Prior to joining K-State, Carlin spent much of her career in public service; working as an historian, archivist and public administrator at the state and national level. She has worked for a wide range of organizations, including the U.S. Corps of Engineers, the Kentucky State Archives, the Georgia Historical Society, the National Archives and Records Administration, and the Library of Congress. Positions at the National Archives included Deputy Director for the Regional Archives System, Director of the Archivist’s Planning Team, Director of Policy and Planning, and Director of Information Resources Policy and Projects Division. At the Library of Congress, Carlin served as a special project coordinator leading or facilitating agency-wide strategic planning and change efforts for the Congressional Research Service and the Library. The effective use of technology to implement change and improve services has been a focus of her work in all of these roles.

Carlin has engaged in numerous professional activities, including participating as an active member of the Society of American Archivists (1984-1996) and as co-editor of A Glossary for Archivists, Manuscript Curators, and Records Managers published by the Society in 1992. She served as a Board member of the National Association of Government Archives and Records Administrators (1994-1997). Carlin was also appointed as the U.S. representative to the Working Group on Terminology (1993-2000) for the International Council on Archives and a member of the Comma Editorial Board (2000-2002). She is currently co-chair of the K-State School for Leadership Studies Advancement Council.

Carlin received her B.S. in social work from Ohio State University in 1974 and her M.A. in history from Marshall University in 1981.
