Director’s Note for 12/09

Sara Thurston-González, Ph.D.
Director, International Student and Scholar Services, Kansas State University

As winter break approaches, I imagine you are looking forward to a little free time!  This has been a great semester for ISSS.  We have welcomed record numbers of international students and have had many new and interesting programs.  Thanks to all of you who have participated!  We will continue to try to improve our services and look forward to hearing any ideas from you.  There are a few new communication initiatives I would like to share with you from this semester.

First, I’ve begun meeting with the presidents of the international student organizations.  These meetings will occur twice a semester and aim at increasing communication between the organizations themselves as well as with our office.  Our first two meetings have provided lengthy discussions on upcoming activities and challenges that the organizations are facing.

Second, we are now on Facebook:  We are using this space to advertise and document our programs and activities with pictures, videos, and text.  We encourage you to become our “fan” so you are well informed about our activities.

Lastly, we are starting this newsletter.  Once again we hope to use this as a tool to communicate even more with the campus community.  We hope you like what you see!

Please keep in touch with us and let us know how we can be of assistance!

Kind Regards,
