Many international students are required to have a TB test prior to enrolling for classes. To get information on TB testing please go to Lafene Health Center's web site at http://www.ksu.edu/lafene/intrnatl.htm .
Health insurance is required by all international students enrolled in a full course of study at Kansas State. Lafene Health Center can provide most routine health care. (See the web site for more information.) However, there may be an incident for which you will need to seek health care off campus. U.S. health care is very good, but it is expensive. For charges incurred at a health care facility, it is required that all students at KSU carry medical insurance for themselves and is recommended for any family members who have accompanied them.
It is a good idea to obtain health insurance upon arrival at K-State. It is generally not possible to purchase insurance after you get sick or a problem is detected during TB testing, because an illness or injury that you already have is considered a preexisting condition and is usually not covered by insurance.
