The 1893 legislature appropriated money for a "Library and Agricultural Science Hall." The building was substantially completed in 1894 for $70,000. The University Library was located in this building until 1927 when Farrell Library was built.
In 1902, this building was named for George T. Fairchild, third President of Kansas State College (1879-1897). He was President when this building was erected. The bronze bust of William Alexander Harris 1841-1909 -"soldier, statesman, farmer, breeder" - rests on a pedestal in front of this building.
Fairchild Hall currenly houses mostly administrative offices including Graduate School, Office of Student Financial Assistance, Educational Advancement, International Programs, English Language Programs and PreAward Services.
