Daylight Saving Time
|
Daylight Saving Time (DST) will start earlier and end later for four years (2007-2010), resulting in four weeks
more per year in the DST time period. In 2007, DST starts Sunday, March 11, and ends Sunday, Nov. 4.
This change is a result of the U.S. Energy Policy Act of 2005
and impacts computers as well as many other electronic and digital devices.

To install the DST update on a Windows computer
- For Windows XP computers, go to
http://support.microsoft.com/gp/cp_dst and
follow the directions. For best results, select "Home User" to get the information on how to install
the patch yourself. Your computer will adjust to the new Daylight Saving Time period if you are running
the latest version of Windows XP with Service Pack 2 and all the updates installed.
Your computer will not change if you are running an earlier version of a Windows operating system.
- For Windows 2000 workstations, install the patch at
theoracle.itac.ksu.edu/dstfixforwin2k.zip.
- For Windows 95, 98, or ME users, no fix is available. Use the process below to manually change the time
on your computer.

When the DST time change occurs in the spring, use this process.
- Double-click the clock in the bottom-right corner of your screen.
- Click on the Time zone tab.
- Unclick "automatically adjust clock for daylight savings changes".
- Then "spring forward" by adding an hour under the Date and Time tab.
When the time changes back in the fall, use this process but reset the PC's time to "fall back" an hour.
