On May 5, spam filtering on the central e-mail system was modified so that e-mail marked at a spam score of eight or above began being blocked at the campus border. This process is now eliminating about 17 percent of the spam coming in from off-campus, before it reaches any K-Staters' e-mail inboxes. Microsoft products added to statewide software contract

by K. Leonard, Computing and Network Services
published May 9, 2006

As of April 1, Microsoft software has been added to the statewide software contract with Software House International. K-State departments that wish to order software on state contract No. 07359 should go to SHI's secure site (https://www.ships.shi.com) or contact sales staff for a quotation (888-394-5232, Kansas@shi.com).

Statewide software contracts for Oracle, Citrix, and FileNET will continue until further notice. All other software should be purchased through SHI. If SHI can't provide the software needed (for whatever reason), it should provide an electronic statement to that effect. At that point, normal K-State purchasing procedures will apply.

To expedite orders, provide the following information:

  1. End-user name, e-mail address, and phone number.
  2. SHI Quotation Number.
  3. Manufacturer's part numbers.
  4. For renewals, include serial/SO/license-certification numbers (depending on the vendor and what they require for renewals).
  5. "Bill-to" and "Ship-to" addresses. (SHI's accounting unit will reject orders without this.)
  6. If a customer knows they have never been billed to a certain address or have never ordered from SHI, they should include their state tax exemption certificate so a new account can be set up.
  7. Clearly state Purchase Order (PO) number (a.k.a. User Number). Some agencies have several different numbers and different ways of naming this so it is important to reference the correct one in the FIS User Number field.
  8. Look for special instructions on quotes to determine if additional information is needed on the PO, and if changing the quantity will also change the original cost of the quote.
  9. If media is needed, specify that on the request. (All quotes for licenses are license-only.)

No minimum purchase is required. Turnaround on common software titles should be under 24 hours per the contract. Questions about software purchasing should be referred to K-State's Purchasing Office, 785-532-6214.
