published Jan. 3, 2006
Several tweaks have been made to InfoTech Tuesday for the year
ahead.
- E-mail and web addresses have been changed from ksu.edu to
k-state.edu to parallel the university's use of
"K-State" as the official logo.
- "Q/A" and "Web watch" have been combined to form one
"Feedback" section that can encompass a variety of reader issues.
- K-State IT links in the right gray bar have been consolidated into a
"Popular IT" section for easier skimming.
- The "Tuesday Gem" at the bottom has been renamed "Spotlight" and
widened to provide more space for photos and text.
Jan. 1-Feb. 8 timeframe to change eID passwords
by B. Edwards, Computing and Network Services
published Jan. 3, 2006
It's time to change passwords on eIDs for the spring semester.
Passwords not changed by the end of Wednesday, Feb. 8, will no longer
work. As a basic security measure, previous passwords cannot be re-used for
two years -- since long-term use of the same password is a poor security
practice.
To change your password, visit the
eid.k-state.edu website and sign in,
then select the Password option. If you've forgotten your password,
call the IT Help Desk at (785) 532-7722 and verify your identity so
staff can set a temporary password for you to sign in on the eID site.
See the
Password FAQs
for details.

k-state.edu web servers updated
by N. Erdwien, Computing and Network Services
published Jan. 3, 2006
In December, some K-State websites got a little easier to use. For
many years, the web addresses of
http://www.ksu.edu
http://www.k-state.edu
https://www.ksu.edu
https://www.k-state.edu
have provided the same content. However, the last address produced a
security warning because the server identified itself as www.ksu.edu. Now a
separate server has been deployed that identifies itself as
www.k-state.edu in order to eliminate the warning. All four
addresses now work without security warnings.
A similar change was made for the four variations of
courses.k-state.edu.
