Symantec to stop support of
AntiVirus Corporate Edition 8.0

by R. Cheung, Computing and Network Services
published Aug. 9, 2005

Symantec will drop support of Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition 8.0 after Nov. 30 -- at which point Symantec may not provide the virus update, and affected computers will have no protection from new threats. K-State policy requires current, effective, active antivirus software on all computers attached to the campus network (see the Security for Information, Computing and Network Resources policy).

K-State's antivirus.ksu.edu site currently has the latest version, 9.0.3.1000, available for free download to K-Staters. If your computer is still running version 8.0, please upgrade to a new version before Nov. 30. Questions about the upgrade should be sent to your departmental technical support, the IT Help Desk, or your SIRT representative.

K-State professor wins two SIDLIT awards

by A. Hagedorn, Information Technology Assistance Center
published Aug. 9, 2005

Allen Featherstone, professor in agricultural economics and director of K-State's Master of Agribusiness Program, received two of the four awards presented at this year's Summer Institute on Distance Learning and Instructional Technology (SIDLIT).

He received the Outstanding Online Teaching award and Outstanding Online Course award. Both awards recognize outstanding ability to incorporate technology into teaching strategies. During the award presentation, Featherstone was recognized for his vision and leadership in creating the first distance Master of Agribusiness (MAB) degree in the United States.

As mentioned on one of the award-nomination forms: "In the three years I was in the program, the technology improvement was remarkable. We started out watching prerecorded lectures on CD and e-mailing questions to faculty...and ended up attending live lectures remotely and asking questions in real time. It has really enriched the experience."
