WebMail service to get new look, more features Aug. 9
K-State's central e-mail system is being upgraded this summer, and
one big change in the works is a new WebMail service. Between 7-8 a.m.
Monday, Aug. 9, the current web-based service at
webmail.ksu.edu
will acquire a new look and improved features.
E-mail will be sent to all K-Staters Wednesday, Aug. 4, to publicize
the upcoming change. K-Staters will not need to make any changes in
their e-mail setups or browsers.
All WebMail address books on the central server
will be converted automatically, and mail folders will not be affected.
Changes made to WebMail address books after 10 p.m. Saturday,
Aug. 7, will not be reflected in the new system.
Details about the conversion and
its benefits are posted on K-State's central e-mail page at www.ksu.edu/InfoTech/e-mail.

Aug. 1-Sept. 8 is password-change timeframe
It's time to change passwords on eIDs for the fall semester.
Passwords not changed by the end of Wednesday, Sept. 8, will no longer work.
One significant change this year is that K-Staters will not be able to
re-use any password they've used in the past two years. This is a
basic security measure, since long-term use of the same password is a
known risk factor.
Visit the eid.k-state.edu website
and sign in to change your password. If you've forgotten your password,
call the K-State IT Help Desk at (785)
532-7722 and verify your identity, and staff will set a temporary password
for you to sign in on the eID site.
For more about passwords, see the Password FAQs page.

Statewide software contract awarded
"Statewide Contract #07359 Software - Large Account Reseller" has been
awarded
to Software House International (SHI) effective June 24. The contract
containing information and contacts will be posted to the
KSU Purchasing website.
There are many questions concerning this contract and the effects
on existing software contracts. In an attempt to clarify for K-State, it is the
intent that this contract will become the primary software contract. This
contract replaces #33426, 33356, 31715, and 05728. Contracts #33071
and #33191 will be incorporated as they expire. As we proceed, various other
existing contracts may also be incorporated under this contract as they expire
(Note: #33071 with American Multitech was an optional use contract; #07359 is
mandatory use).
The current contract for K-State Microsoft products is #05986 with Software Plus,
and this contract will remain for K-State for all Microsoft products. K-State Adobe
products are currently under contract #40091 with MTC and will continue until
further notice. Statewide software contracts for Oracle (#30612), Citrix (#01171), and
FileNET (#02467) will also continue until further notice.
All software (other than previously noted) should be purchased through SHI.
If SHI can't provide the software (for whatever reason), they should provide an
electronic statement to that effect to you. At that point, normal
K-State purchasing procedures will apply.
Questions should be referred to the KSU Purchasing Office, 532-6214.
We are sure you are aware of the depth and complexity of incorporating into a
statewide primary software reseller, and your patience and understanding is
greatly appreciated.

Computer store sees sales growth of Apple products
The K-State Student Union Computer Store was in the top 10 U.S. campus
resellers in sales growth of Apple products for April-June,
compared to the same quarter a year ago. The store's actual rank was #5 in
Apple's campus-reseller category.
This doesn't mean we are in the top 10 in sales volume of Apple
products. We are fairly small sales-wise compared to many campus
resellers, some of which post sales volumes comparable to Comp USA
and Best Buy stores. But we are pleased that the store has this much
growth in Apple sales over the same quarter from last year.
