Downloading and Installing Microsoft Windows Updates

It may be helpful to print this page for reference as you follow these steps to update your Windows operating system:

Updating Windows

  1. Open the control panel.
  2. Under the Classic View, click Windows Update.
  3. If there are important updates to be installed, a notification will be displayed.
  4. Click on the Install Updates button to get high-priority updates.

  6. The updates should begin downloading to your computer.

  7. When prompted, Restart your computer to complete the installation of updates.

    Note: Downloading and installing Windows updates is a cumulative process. Some updates are not available until previous ones have been installed. It's not unusual to have to restart your computer multiple times.

  8. After completing the Windows update process:
    • If you are off campus, double-click on the K-State CSA on your desktop to continue the process.
    • If you are on campus, open a browser window to continue the process.

Note: Microsoft no longer provides updates for Windows 98, 98SE, ME, and NT. Therefore, K-State does not support these operating systems on the network. You must run at least Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 2, or MAC OS X to connect to the K-State network.
