Duplex and single-sided printing

In August, double-sided (duplex) printing became the default in the university computing labs and K-State InfoCommons. This page tells how to switch between duplex and single-sided printing when using:



Microsoft Office 2007

Follow these steps to switch between duplex and single-sided printing when using Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, etc.) in the university computing labs and K-State InfoCommons.

  1. In the Office program you're using, click the Windows icon at the top left, select Print, and then Print on the submenu.

  2. In the Print window that appears, click the Properties button at top right.
  3. In the UCL Properties window, select the Finishing tab. Under Document Options, set your printing preference:

    • Single-sided printing: Uncheck Print on Both Sides.
    • Duplex printing: Checkmark Print on Both Sides.
  4. Click OK.


Internet Explorer 7

Follow these steps to switch between duplex and single-sided printing when using the IE web browser in the university computing labs and K-State InfoCommons.

  1. When you're ready to print, go to the top toolbar and select File and then Print.
  2. In the Print window, on the General tab, click the Preferences button.
  3. In the Printing Preferences window, select the print option you want.

    • None is single-sided printing.
    • Flip on Long Edge is normal duplex printing.
    • Flip on Short Edge is duplex printing that lets you flip through pages like a legal pad.
  5. Click OK.


Mozilla Firefox 3 web browser

Follow these steps to switch between duplex and single-sided printing when using the Firefox web browser in the university computing labs and K-State InfoCommons.

  1. When you're ready to print, go to the top toolbar and select File and then Print.
  2. In the Print window, click the Properties button at top right.
  3. In the Document Properties window, select the Layout tab. Find the Print on Both Sides section and select the option you want.

  4. Click OK.
