Meritorious Recognition goes to:
Paul Abitz
Information Systems Office
“Paul Abitz, System Coordinator for Student Records in the Office of Information Systems, was instrumental in the successful implementation of iSIS, the new student information system as part of the LASER Project… Conversion of existing academic and personal information of our students was one of the most challenging tasks associated with the iSIS implementation; Paul worked tirelessly and meticulously with other LASER team members to ensure the accuracy and thoroughness of this converted data. Throughout this long, grueling effort, Paul could always be counted on to remain calm and focused on the work at hand, doing whatever he could to make the implementation successful. He is a joy to work with and ever a team player.”

Jeremiah Shirk
Office of Mediated Education (OME)
“Jeremiah is the supervisor of the Application Systems Administration (ASA) team in OME. It is their responsibility to be in the middle between the developers and the UNIX administrators to ensure that the OME systems are running properly. We have done a large revamping of our infrastructure, but no one is aware of that because of the effective work that Jeremiah has designed and helped implement. Because of Jeremiah’s work, most of the OME systems work at the high production level that we have come to expect, but are also positioned to change with future technological advances as they emerge. I have never heard Jeremiah utter the words: that won’t work, or we can’t do that. He is always ready to explore any and all options and almost always has an open mind to different concepts or ways of doing things.”
