Getting connected
Initial Attempt
A K-State eID is required to use dial-in service. If you currently do not have an eID, you may register
for one at
eid.k-state.edu.
If you have questions about your eID, contact the K-State IT Help Desk at (785) 532-7722.
- Sign up for dial-in service.
- Get a copy of the K-State CatPack software.
- Install the CatPack software on your computer, following the guide for a Windows or Macintosh installation.
- Double click on the K-State Dial-up icon on your desktop.
- Enter your eID and password in the User name and Password fields.
- Ensure the number in the Dial field matches your location. Dial-In numbers are:
- Manhattan - On Campus: 5-9800
- Manhattan - Off Campus: 395-9800
- Salina - On Campus: 6-7160
- Salina - Off Campus: 826-7160
- Salina - Off Campus: 826-7160
- Nationwide: 1-800-237-9531 (additional 10¢/minute)
- Click Dial
Changing Your Password
Your eID and password are used to access the Dial-In network.
K-State policy currently requires that your eID password be changed twice a year.
When you change your password you MUST change your saved Dial-In password by following the instructions below.
Windows:
- To make the change in your computer double click on the K-State Dial-up icon on your computers desktop screen.
- Uncheck the save password box. Then simply type in your eID where it asks for User name and your eID password in the Password box.

- Place a checkmark in the save password square and click connect. The computer will remember your information after you successfully connect.
Mac OS X:
- Open up the "Internet Connect" application. If you have a phone icon on the top of the screen, click on it and select "Open Internet Connect". Otherwise, double click on your hard drive icon on the desktop. Then click on "Applications". And double click on the "Internet Connect" application icon.
- Highlight the password and retype your new password.
- Click connect and verify that your password is correct.

DNS Changes
Most Windows 2000, XP, Vista, and Macintosh machines will set the
DNS configuration automatically. If, you have trouble getting
or staying connected you should enter this information.
To Change DNS Servers: Windows XP
- Click Start and select Control panel
- Double click on Network Connections in the Control
Panel
- Double Click on the Dial Up network adapter and
select the Networking tab.
- The window should look like the one below.

- Highlight Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click Properties.
- Select "Use the following DNS server addressess:".
- Enter 129.130.254.2 as the Preferred DNS server.
- Enter 129.130.254.4 as the Alternate DNS server.
- Click OK twice and try connecting again.
