Connecting to K-State
K-State students and employees use an eID, or "electronic identifier," to access e-mail, personal webpages, K-State Online, and other K-State resources. See eIDs at K-State for details.
Internet access
There are three ways to connect to the campus data network and then to the Internet:
- Dial-in service through K-State Telecommunications. Commercial Internet Service Providers (ISPs) are also listed in the Yellow Pages.
- Resnet for students living in the residence halls.
- Wireless computer network to link to the Internet without being physically tied to an Ethernet connection line. See the Wireless Standards and Procedures. K-Staters are prohibited from operating Wireless Access Points on the K-State network or on K-State property, including the residence halls.
Campus network access
- Virtual Private Network (VPN). K-State students and employees with a valid eID may use the VPN to access the university's network resources in a secure manner over the Internet.
- Samba connectivity. Samba provides a method for accessing UNIX file space as a drive letter mapping from within Windows, Macintosh, Linux and other operating systems.
