Screen
A screen is on the wall behind the podium. The screen is raised and lowered with a switch located on the wall to the left of the small closet. The screen automatically stops when being lowered.

Projector: Epson (The unit is mounted in the small room at the top of the lecture room)
Default: power off
The Epson can project images from the computer or through the Visual Presenter (Elmo). The projection is set to 1024 by 768 pixels.

The Extron Media Link Controller is located on top of the podium and controls what is displayed through the projectors. To turn it on press the "Display Power" button. A blue backlit display will show what items are available to be displayed through the projector. To turn the power off press and hold the "Display Power" button until power is turned off. Note: it may take a moment for the machine to turn on/off. The green light will flash once the lamp has been turned off. After the green light is off, the blue back light on the Extron Media Link Controller will flash. If restarting the LCD projector, the entire shutdown sequence must take place before the projector will restart.

Power
Podium power is turned on with the power switch located inside the podium on the left side. The switch is a red square button and controls power to the Visual Presenter and the computer monitor.  It takes about thirty seconds to power up.

Computer
PC Default: power on (monitor will show start up process) (Select "PC" on the Extron Media Link Controller).
Faculty may store information on the I: drive under the "instructors" folder using individual folders for each class (e.g., BIOCH 750). --Extron #1
Note:The computer is equipped with a CD/DVD drive and front-accessible USB drive.

Macintosh Default: power off (Select "Macintosh" on the Extron Media Link Controller)
Faculty may store information under the "instructors" folder using individual folders for each class (e.g., BIOCH 750). The Macintosh is equipped with a CD-DVD Rom drive and a front accessible USB port. Faculty may store information under the "instructors" folder using individual folders for each class (e.g., BIOCH 750).

Portable computer (Select "Laptop" on Extron Media Link Controller)
External cables are provided for the audio, video, and ethernet connections. These cables are located inside the podium and should be placed back in podium when finished.

USB Mass Storage Device
The PC is equipped with a front-accessible USB (Universal Serial Bus) connection located at the front, bottom of the PC. To connect your device, insert the USB device firmly into the socket. It will be automatically detected and will exist as drive letter "G:" in the menu for the My Computer icon. When finished with using the device, stop the device by right clicking on the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon located at the bottom of the display near the time clock. (The icon resembles a small card with a green arrow above it.) A dialog box will appear letting you know you may remove the USB device. Note: Be careful not to shut the podium door on your USB device while using this connection.

A USB Connection to the PC is located on the black "wedge," and is an identical connection to the G: drive.

Portable Mouse
A "Gyromouse" wireless mouse has been installed in this room.  It is stored on the shelf inside the podium. Please be sure to place it back on the cradle/charger when finished.  The green light on the unit is lit when the unit is working.  On a flat surface, the Gyromouse operates just like a regular, non-wireless mouse.  Simply place the device on a flat surface, move it to the desired position and use the left or right click function as you would on an ordinary mouse. When operating the Gyromouse while holding it in free space, activate the cursor/pointer by clicking the trigger-like button underneath the unit.  While holding the trigger, position the cursor to the desired position and then release it.  To highlight multiple items, as in a spreadsheet, hold the trigger down and drag it across the desired cells until the area you wish highlighted has been captured.  Release the trigger and left or right click as necessary for the function you wish to perform.

To operate the camera, raise the camera head and lights, then power on the unit. Press the document camera button on the Media Link. You will see output to both the computer monitor and the projector unit.

To focus the Epson, zoom in closely on the image by pressing the "Tele" button, then hit auto focus. While the auto focus button is blinking, the camera is still focusing. The button to adjust between upper and lower lamps is located on the right side of the unit. One push provides upper lamps, a second push provides the lower (transparency) light, and a third no lights at all.

Slide Projector
The slide projector  is controlled using the wooden panel located to the right of the podium. The slide projector itself is located in the cabinet at the back of the room.  You will need a key to open the cabinet and if you plan on using it during the semester you should contact Jeff Head of the Krider Center to obtain keys for it.  His phone number is 532-1094.

The power switch is located on the front left side. If the DVD player is not functioning faculty may use the DVD program on the PC. The autoplay feature for the DVD software has been disabled on the PCs. To access the DVD program go to Start/All Programs/Cyberlink DVD and then launch the Power DVD Program. When using the PC to play DVDs, use PC volume control and not the DVD volume control.

Classroom Lights
Cardwell 102 has a set of special controls for the lighting system. Controls for these lights are located in five places.

(1) Inside each of the double doors at the top of the lecture room
(2) Inside the double doors from the Physics setup area to the right when facing the lecture room
(3) Blackboard light is inside the double doors from the Physics setup area to the left when facing the lecture room
Be careful; it takes a few seconds for the lights to reset. Use a very light touch on the switches. Pushing hard causes the control to malfunction. The control is very expensive to replace. A slow change occurs in the lighting when switching settings. There is a toggle switch which controls two spot lights focused on the lecture table. Settings range from full, bright lights to complete darkness, with several levels in-between. There are six settings available:
(1) full lighting
(2) full lighting except first row and a little dim
(3) dimmer
(4) dimmest
(5) all lights off
(6) bottom switch is a rheostat (dim-level switch) which can be moved up and down to change the level of dimming done by switches, #1-#4

Sound System
The switch for the sound system is located on the teacher side of the lecture table near the center. It is the AMP switch located on the bottom row and is the first switch on the left. The sound is controlled by the Pioneer remote located on the podium shelf under the keyboards. A receiver is positioned behind the computer monitor. You will want to aim the remote at the receiver to control the volume. You will see a small LED light if the signal is being received.

Podium Microphone
Default: power on when "Sound System" is on.

Wireless Microphones (2)
Default: power off
Wireless microphones should be turned off when not in use.  Place the unit in the drawer when finished and do NOT wrap the cord around the battery pack.   Lay the unit down first, then gently lay the cord and microphone next to it.

Security

Security Access System
Entry to the technology classrooms is controlled by a central security access system. Each room will have at least one door designated as the entry point with a security access lock and indicator light. There are two modes for each room, secure mode and access mode.
Secure mode - During Secure mode the door cannot be pulled open. The security access system has the room in a secure state. If the room is entered motion, heat, and door sensors will send an alarm to the police.
Access mode - During Access mode the door can be pulled open. The security access system has been deactivated and people may enter the room without sending an alarm.
Please note: The door handle should not turn. If you can turn the door handle, please use your security key to lock it.
The security access system has two types of control, central control and security key control.
Central control will turn the security to access mode and back to secure mode on scheduled class days. The timing of the mode change will vary from day to day. On weekends and holidays, the classrooms will be in secure mode 24 hours a day.
Security key control will allow faculty to use their security key and enter the room when it is in secure mode. When central control has the room in access mode, the security key has no control.

The security access system lock is located beside the door and has green and red indicator lights. The indicator lights display the mode: green for access mode and red for secure mode. To access the room when it is in secure mode, use the security key to switch the indicator light to green and to access mode. Enter room and work. When leaving the room, use the security key to switch the indicator light back to red and to secure mode.
