Start Up and Shut Down Procedures

Screen
A screen is on the wall behind the podium. The screen is raised and lowered with the switch located on the wall in the corner behind the podium. The screen automatically stops at the bottom when being lowered.

Projector: Epson (The unit is mounted on the ceiling off to the left)
Default: power off
Resolution of projector is 1024 by 768 pixels.  The Epson can project images from the computer, DVD player, or from the Visual Presenter. To turn on, touch the Crestron Display panel screen (the monitor on the right side of the podium), anywhere if the screen is black, or anywhere but the "setup" button if the default screen is showing.

Power
Podium power should remain on at all times. Please do not turn off the power switch.  A constant power supply (UPS) has been installed to protect the computer from crashing in the case of a power failure. If the power goes out, go through the shut-down procedure as quickly as possible. Do not turn the UPS off.

Using the Crestron Display panel

Use a soft touch to control the display. To display a particular device 1) make sure power to the device is on, 2) push the corresponding device button on the Crestron display screen, and 3) push the "out to the projector" button on the lower left portion of the screen. When you do so, an icon for the desired device will replace the previously displayed icon. If you do not push the "out to the projector button," you will see the display screen on the Crestron's preview screen, but not on the screen at the front of the room.

External electrical outlet
External electrical outlets are located on the power strip and on the walls of the classroom.

Computer
PC Default: power on
Faculty may store information on the I: drive under the "instructors" folder using individual folders for each class (e.g., BIOCH 750). The computer is equipped with a CD/DVD drive and front-accessible USB drive.

Macintosh Default: power off --
The Macintosh is equipped with a CD-DVD Rom drive and a front accessible USB port. Faculty may store information under the "instructors" folder located on the desktop using individual folders for each class (e.g., BIOCH 750).

Portable computer In order for a portable computer to be visible through the projector, use the external cable (located on the podium desktop) and press the laptop icon on the Crestron display

Tegrity Web Capture System
This room is equipped with a Tegrity system for capturing live lectures and making them available for distribution through an online interface. The system consists of a camera or cameras placed in the room which are capable of being controlled by the instructor, a capture computer, wireless microphone, keyboard and mouse. The Tegrity computer is separate from the PC which is installed in the room for the use of the instructor. The wireless keyboard and mouse are stored in the podium and must be returned there following each class. The Office of Mediated Education has staff available for training and support for the Tegrity system. Contact them at 532-2508 for more information, or visit http://public.online.ksu.edu/support/wps/contact.php to see more information online.

USB Mass Storage Device
The PC is equipped with a front-accessible USB (Universal Serial Bus) connection located at the front, bottom of the PC. To connect your device, insert the USB device firmly into the socket. It will be automatically detected and will exist as drive letter "G:" in the menu for the My Computer icon. When finished with using the device, stop the device by right clicking on the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon located at the bottom of the display near the time clock. (The icon resembles a small card with a green arrow above it.) A dialog box will appear letting you know you may remove the USB device. Note: Be careful not to shut the podium door on your USB device while using this connection.

A USB Connection to the PC is located on the black "wedge," and is an identical connection to the G: drive.

Portable Mouse
A "Gyromouse" wireless mouse has been installed in this room.  It is stored on the shelf inside the podium. Please be sure to place it back on the cradle/charger when finished.  The green light on the unit is lit when the unit is working.  On a flat surface, the Gyromouse operates just like a regular, non-wireless mouse.  Simply place the device on a flat surface, move it to the desired position and use the left or right click function as you would on an ordinary mouse.
When operating the Gyromouse while holding it in free space, activate the cursor/pointer by clicking the trigger-like button underneath the unit.  While holding the trigger, position the cursor to the desired position and then release it.  To highlight multiple items, as in a spreadsheet, hold the trigger down and drag it across the desired cells until the area you wish highlighted has been captured.  Release the trigger and left or right click as necessary for the function you wish to perform.

Software aboard computers
IBM Pentium-Windows Operating System, Adobe Acrobat Reader and Plug-ins, Corel Office Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, Network connectivity tools, Netscape and Internet Explorer web browsers, Audio CD Player, and PC-DVD Player.

Default: power off
The DVD player is located in the podium underneath the Creston display panel. The power switch is located on the front left side of the DVD player. The DVD player has a separate set of controls on the Crestron panel.

The audio from the player will automatically begin playing into the room sound system as soon as the player is started. The audio will not play if another projection device is being used. If the DVD player is not functioning faculty may use the DVD program on the PC. The autoplay feature for the DVD software has been disabled on the PCs. To access the DVD program go to Start/All Programs/Cyberlink DVD and then launch the Power DVD Program. When using the PC to play DVDs, use PC volume control and not the DVD volume control.

Classroom lights
Lights are located inside the door to the left as well as behind the instructor podium.

Sound System
The SHURE system, located at the lower left of the podium, controls the sound.  It includes a tape deck, equalizer, and a top row of knobs, which control volume. The blue buttons above the tape deck can be adjusted. When you are done, please return the buttons to the yellow dot, if you have adjusted them.
Do not touch or turn any volume or equalizer controls under the wire mesh for they have been pre-set.

A flashlight is in the top right drawer of the podium if you need light to view the controls.

Volume control for everything but the microphone units can also be controlled from the Crestron Display.

Wireless Microphone
Default: power off
Wireless microphone should be turned off when not in use.  Place the unit in the drawer when finished and do NOT wrap the cord around the battery pack.   Lay the unit down first, then gently lay the cord and microphone next to it.
