Screen
A screen is on the wall behind the podium. The screen is raised
and lowered with the switch located on the wall to the left of the blackboard
(when facing the blackboard). The screen does not automatically
stop at the bottom of the blackboard when being lowered.
Projector:
Eiki (The unit is mounted on the ceiling in the middle of the room.)
Default: power off
The projection is set to 1024 by 768 pixels.
The Extron Media Link Controller is located
on top of the podium and controls what is displayed through the projector.
To turn it on press the "On" button. There is a backlit display will show what items are available
to be displayed through the projector. The unit will flash while the projetor warms up. When the flashing stops, you will be able to switch between devices. To turn the power off press the "Off" button. Note:
it may take a moment for the machine to turn on/off. The back
light will flash once the lamp has been turned off. If restarting
the LCD projector, the entire shutdown sequence must take place before
the projector will restart.
Power
Podium power is turned on with one power switch, located in the podium.
The power switch looks like a light switch and control power to the
Visual Presenter, and the computer monitor. It takes about one
minute to power up. A universal power supply (UPS) has been installed
to protect the computer from crashing in the case of a power failure.
Do not turn UPS off.

Faculty may store information on the I: drive under the "instructors"
folder using individual folders for each class (e.g., BIOCHM 750). The
computer is equipped with a CD/DVD drive and front-accessible USB drive.
Portable computer Select "laptop"

External cables are provided for the audio, video, and ethernet connections.
These cables are located inside the podium and should be placed back
in podium when finished.
Software aboard computers
IBM Pentium-Windows Operating System,
Adobe Acrobat Reader and Plug-ins, Corel Office Suite, Microsoft Office
Suite, Network connectivity tools, Firefox and Internet Explorer web
browsers, Audio CD Player, and PC-DVD Player.
USB Mass Storage Device
The PC is equipped with a front-accessible USB (Universal Serial Bus)
connection located on the front, middle of the PC. To connect your device,
insert the USB device firmly into the socket. It will be automatically
detected and will exist as drive letter "G:" in the menu for
the My Computer icon. When finished with using the device, stop the
device by right clicking on the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon
located at the bottom of the display near the time clock. (The icon
resembles a small card with a green arrow above it.) A dialog box will
appear letting you know you may remove the USB device. Note:
Be careful not to shut the podium door on your USB device while using
this connection.
A USB Connection to the PC is located on the black "wedge" on the podiu deskto, and is an identical connection to the G: drive.
Portable Mouse
A "Gyromouse" wireless mouse has been installed in this room.
It is stored on the shelf inside the podium. Please be sure to place
it back on the cradle/charger when finished. The green light on
the unit is lit when the unit is working. On a flat surface, the
Gyromouse operates just like a regular, non-wireless mouse. Simply
place the device on a flat surface, move it to the desired position
and use the left or right click function as you would on an ordinary
mouse.
When operating the Gyromouse while holding it in free space, activate
the cursor/pointer by clicking the trigger-like button underneath the
unit. While holding the trigger, position the cursor to the desired
position and then release it. To highlight multiple items, as
in a spreadsheet, hold the trigger down and drag it across the desired
cells until the area you wish highlighted has been captured. Release
the trigger and left or right click as necessary for the function you
wish to perform.
Visual Presenter

Link Controller
Default: power off
The Visual Presenter is a camera projector for opaque materials, transparencies,
slides, and negatives, as well as three-dimensional objects (watch to
see your hand being projected on the screen as you lay down your materials).
DVD Player (with
remote) Select "DVD"
on Media Link Controller
Default: power off
The DVD player is located in the podium underneath the Visual Presenter.
The power switch is located on the front left side. The audio from the
player will automatically begin playing into the room sound system as
soon as the player is started. The audio will not play if another projection
device is being used. If the DVD player is not functioning faculty
may use the DVD program on the PC. The autoplay feature for the DVD
software has been disabled on the PCs. To access the DVD program go
to Start/All Programs/Cyberlink DVD and then launch the Power DVD Program.
When using the PC to play DVDs, use PC volume control and not the DVD
volume control.
Viewing
monitor
Default: power on
The monitor, located to the left of the computer in the podium, displays
the image from the DVD unit. A black background with a dancing DVD symbol
indicates that the DVD side is on.
Slide Projector
Default: power off
NOTE: It is very important that this unit is turned off after each use.
Slide projector located in the back of the room. In order to it,
use the controls on the back of the slide projector. Suggested lighting:
Turn off the back row and front row lights. If there are problems with
the slide projector, contact the Biology Department, located in Ackert
232. The phone number is 532-6615.
Classroom Lighting
Ackert 120 has a number of switches that control different zones. Controls
for these lights are in two places:
(1) Inside the northeast door
(2) Inside the southeast door
Note: There are no switches by the back (west) door.
Settings range from full, bright lights to complete darkness, with several
levels in-between. There are six settings available:
(1) Front Row
(2) Rows 2 and 3
(3) Row 4
(4) Rows 5 and 6
(5) Row 7
(6) Back Row
Wireless microphone
(clip-on microphone with cord to battery-pack unit)
Default: power off.
Wireless microphone should be turned off when not in use. The microphone
is stored on the podium shelf. Place the unit back on the shelf when
finished and do NOT wrap the cord around the battery pack. Lay the unit
down first, then gently lay the cord and microphone next to it.
Sound System
The master volume controls are located on the shelf to the right of
the chalkboard at the front of the room. In addition, there are individual
controls on the sound system panel for each sound emitting device. Please
restore volume controls to the default settings (the colored dots) when
finished for the day.
Telephone
The telephone number is 532-3242.
A telephone is located in the bottom of the podium. The telephone will
ring if the number on the telephone is called. Please answer the telephone
if you have called someone for assistance.
Hot line
If you have problems while in a Technology Classroom a hotline is available
to you. Follow the procedure below:
The hot-line number is 2-5798.
Police
Call 2-6412 if entering room before 7 a.m. or after 5 p.m. on weekdays
or anytime on weekends.
