Change Thresholds

To encourage continual process improvement and enterprise-wide adoption, each central IT department currently has the flexibility to establish a change threshold that makes sense for their respective systems, technical architectures, and organizational culture. As the central IT departments become more experienced with the change management process and experience the benefits and successes of participation, it is anticipated that standard thresholds can be developed and adopted by all central IT departments.

Until standard thresholds are established, the CMB provides the following as a guideline for determining whether a proposed change should be reviewed by the CMB. If the answer to any of the following questions is yes, a change request should probably be submitted.

Will the change:

  • Require downtime of a system or service that affects more than one department or unit?
  • Significantly modify the user experience, cause confusion, or require additional training?
  • Likely result in support calls to the IT Help Desk?
  • Result in a new system or module being rolled out?
  • Impact other systems, services or key processes?
