Installing Software

Note: After installing the K-State Calendar desktop client, you will need to configure it.

Windows

2000 / XP

  1. Log in with administrative privileges if you are installing on Windows NT, 2000, or XP.
  2. Run the self-extracting executable cal_win_1011.exe and follow the on-screen instructions.
Mac

Mac OS X

  1. Ensure that you have administrative privileges.
  2. Double-click cal_mac_OSX_1011.dmg and follow the on-screen instructions.

    Note: The installer extracts the application and copies the Readme.htm file into the destination folder you have selected. It also extracts all shared libraries to the /Library/CFMSupport/ folder and the Oracle Calendar Help folder to the /Library/Documentation/Help/ folder.

  3. Double-click the Oracle Calendar desktop client icon to start the application once installation is complete.
Linux

Red Hat Linux 7.x, to 9.0 / SuSE Linux 7.1 / Linux x.86 with kernel 2.4 or later

  1. Unpack the distribution archive in a directory. /usr/local is the sample directory used in the following instructions.

    cd /tmp
    gtar zxvf /tmp/cal_linux_1011.tar.gz

  2. Change to the OracleCalendar_inst directory.

    cd OracleCalendar_inst

  3. To install using a full graphical interface, run gui_install.sh. To install using a text mode interface, run text_install.sh. You will be prompted for installation and shortcut directories.
Solaris

8/9 (SPARC only)

  1. Unpack the distribution archive in a directory. /usr/local is the example directory used in the following instructions.

    cd /usr/local
    gtar zxvf /tmp/motif_0502000_734_solaris_en.tar.gz

    Note: ctime, ctime support libraries, html-help, and readme.htm are extracted into a new directory called CorporateTime.

  2. Change to the CorporateTime directory.

    cd CorporateTime

  3. Set the environment variable CTIME_ROOT so that it points to /usr/local/CorporateTime, the directory that has been created.
  4. Add the /usr/local/CorporateTime directory to your path.
  5. Run /usr/local/CorporateTime/ctime.sh.

Configuring the Desktop Client

In order to start using the K-State Calendar desktop client, you will need to configure it.

Connecting to the Correct K-State Calendar Server
  1. Start Oracle calendar from an installed Oracle Calendar client program.
  2. Click Other.

  3. Click New.
  4. In the Connection Name box, type kcalendar.k-state.edu.
  5. In the Server box, type kcalendar.k-state.edu.
  6. Click the Lookup button.

  8. Click OK.
  9. Click the kcalendar.k-state.edu entry in Connection Manager window.

  10. Click the Make Default button.
  11. Click OK.
  12. In the User name box, type your eID.
  13. In the Password box, type your password.

    Note: Sharing your eID password with others is a violation of the Information Technology Usage Policy. You can instead give designate rights to individuals you want to manage your agenda. See Setting Designate Rights and Working as a Designate for more information.

  14. Click Sign-in.

    Note: When signing-in in the future, your name may be displayed in the User name box instead of your eID. Both will work.

  15. Click No when asked if you would like an off-line agenda.
Disabling the Off-line Agenda

To disable the off-line agenda and prevent K-State Calendar from asking you if you would like to download an off-line agenda each time you sign in, do the following:

  1. On the Tools menu, click Options.
  2. Click the plus sign (+) next to Offline and then click Download.
  3. Click Do not download.

  4. Click OK.
  5. Close K-State Calendar.
  6. Open K-State Calendar.
  7. In the User name box, type your eID.
  8. In the Password box, type your password.
  9. Click Sign-in.
  10. Click Yes when asked if you would like an off-line agenda.

    Note: An empty off-line agenda file will be created but you shouldn't be prompted to download one again.
